I started listening to the film cast in 2015, and what was one of my favourite podcasts on film has dwindled to uninteresting debates on petty details in movies, or Jeff saying he cried at a movie and often deeming it the best movie he’s seen this year (this will happen frequently).
It can be a decent listen to hear some news on the film industry and finding out about new movies coming out, but don’t expect too much critiquing or analysis
I’ve been a long time listener of The Filmcast and I genuinely value the depth of analysis that David, Devindra, and Jeff bring to film discussion. When the show is focused, it is one of the best movie podcasts out there.
That said, the dynamic has started to feel off.
Devindra frequently interrupts or talks over others. It disrupts the flow and weakens what could otherwise be strong analysis. A discussion podcast only works when everyone has room to finish their thoughts. Right now, that bala... more
Great show and I would have given it 5 stars but there is one flaw I can’t ignore. Devindra constantly interrupts everyone. I think it happens enough that the other hosts are able to navigate around it, but I hope they do address this.
I’ve listened a long time. Really love these guys. My only one complaint is the Weekly Plug segment. I know they need to get their other ventures out there but I wish this segment was retired and they just organically plugged their other things within conversation. Makes the full episode feel a bit stagnant. Bring back film court or another fun segment.
Not sure what happened on the latest episode, but David stated that The Bride was Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut, based on The Lost Daughter. Sounds like the kind of mishmash of misinformation that sometimes results when Googling things these days. For the record, The Lost Daughter was Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut; The Bride is her second film, based on The Bride of Frankenstein.
