Really need to layoff the patriarchy bs. Could be a great podcast if they quit trying to tie everything in the show to their insane woke standards. Id say if your into drinking games try drinking every time they say “patriarchy” You will not last long
Jessie has ruined the show. Im unsubscribing. Also making the book comparisons premium only means the show has lost the value it originally was created to provide.
I used to love the show when it was David (the original host) and Joanna, then later Kim. The episodes were always very topical and Joanna/Kim would provide a lot of interesting lore and book knowledge, while David was genuinely good show critic. Unfortunately, David had to take a step back this season and hasn't been able to be nearly as involved and the show's dialogue has imploded because of it. I thought Jessie was a good guest cohost a couple times last season, but the show has gone complet... more
I’ve listened to this podcast for five years and really enjoyed the knowledge of the GOT universe the hosts brought to the discussion. But now there just seems to be a commitment to analyzing the universe according to contemporary values so the analysis is focused on pointing out every manifestation of the patriarchy which gets very boring. It’s quite annoying because their analysis is not particularly deep or insightful, they just go through every scene and say “this is patriarchy”. We get it. ... more
Now it’s less so. Which is a shame. The new hosts mean well, and they are likable, but get too down in the weeds about relatively small things they don’t like. (Even more than David used to if you can believe it)
Which is fine, they are free to have their opinions, but at the end of the day, if this podcast is not at least a fun discussion of HotD, then what’s the point of listening?
Hope the hosts can turn it around soon.

A show focused on deep-dish breakdowns of a high-profile fantasy series, pairing spoiler-free impressions with thorough episode-by-episode analysis. Hosts—an experienced film/TV reviewer and an entertainment journalist—discuss plot threads, pacing, and thematic currents (power, gender, class), often comparing on-screen events to the source material. The conversations frequently weave in production, storytelling mechanics, and book-vs-show differences, making it useful for fans who want both accessible reactions and richer interpretation. A notable pattern is balancing critical insight with approachable banter, while occasionally including meta-commentary on adaptation choices and representation. The format also features long-running coverag... more
