Many children born in the late 1970s to the present day have found themselves influenced by Dr James Dobson founder of Focus on the Family. James Dobson equated child rearing to training dogs, his harmful abusive training techniques raised a generation of children. We would like to speak up.

This pod brought up things I didn’t even know I’d pushed down. The conversations are deep and dark but also uplifting and restorative. Also pretty of laughs. 5+ stars.

  • Cathartic

My Dobson story is a bit unique and my parents were only nominally religious and didn’t really play much of a role early on in my life in my religious development. • Relatable!

Raised Assemblies of God from as long as I can remember to 15 and then a non-denominational Evangelical church for the next 5-6 years after that, I was labeled the Strong-Willed Child from such an early age that I can’t pinpoint when it started. And as a fellow Xennial, even the cultural bits are familiar to me. I grew up in Colorado Springs, home of Focus on the Family (I remember when they made a big to-do over building the... more
