  • No longer boots on the ground

Not the Reveal I used to listen. I feel like it’s gotten PBSified (biased) & no longer tells the well researched, thoughtful pieces. It’s more of an echo chamber & I no longer want to listen. Really a long time journalist knows what’s presently happening on the ground from afar? Very old timey. :( Pity-it had been amazing.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Afghan War Allies Were Promised Safety in the US—Until Now
Q: Can you tell me how it works? How do you first connect with allies in Afghanistan?
The process is lengthy and highly structured, involving strict vetting by USCIS and State, with multiple checks including employment history, biometrics, and several layers of approvals, all designed to ensure those applying truly need protection and have supported the U.S. mission.
Exploding Pintos, Imploding Politics: Celebrating 50 Years of Fearless Journalism
Q: How did the merger between Mother Jones and the Center for Investigative Reporting come about, and what does it mean for the future?
The merger was a strategic team effort recognizing that nonprofit investigative journalism could be stronger together, combining Mother Jones' digital and social footprint with CIR's investigative reach, enabling broader impact while preserving independent reporting.
The Film the BBC Wouldn’t Air
Q: Why did the film end up airing on Channel 4 instead of the BBC?
After months of negotiations and a gagging clause threat, the BBC stepped back, and Channel 4 picked up the film, with international distribution via another outlet, reflecting a broader conflict between editorial independence and corporate pressure within a public broadcaster.
The Film the BBC Wouldn’t Air
Q: What was the core source of the BBC's resistance to airing the film?
Editors and executives raised issues around language, sources, and the right to reply, then framed decisions in terms of impartiality and branding rather than the factual substance of the reporting.
As the Trump Administration Erases Black History, These Writers Are Keeping It Alive
Q: What do you tell your students in such a hostile environment towards journalism?
Jelani emphasizes that journalism is crucial and encourages transparency in reporting to regain public trust.
