  • Incredible

After listening to Mr. Shoys other shows WTATU, and Four and One More, I decided to give this show a listen. I love story telling, and it’s great to hear stories from other cultures and countries that I wouldn’t have necessarily heard anywhere else. It’s a real shame the show was retired, but it was great while it lasted. Thanks for all the hard work Bob!

  • Folk yeah!

I love this podcast- the stories are always brilliantly told and come from such an eclectic range of traditions.

I love that there is the perfect balance of emotion and neutrality when telling the tales, which, in my opinion, is the making of a great storyteller. One should feel engaged with the characters but the stories should also speak for themselves. In this podcast, the narrator manages to tick both these boxes, making this show highly enjoyable.

My only complaint is that there isn’t en... more

I love the laid back angle he takes. Very creative on his sound effects. Tells a story beautifully and follows up with details that we learn as we go through the podcast. I love folktales and he is brilliant and it shows through his work. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ he’s gonna go far-he’s only just begun!! And by the way-British podcasts rock!

  • Eurocentric and cheesy, no thanks

I tried listening to the Llorona episode, but stopped half way through. I could get past the cheesy Spanish language quotes that seemed comedic in contrast to the narrator’s straight forward and plain speech. If you’re going to be funny then do it throughout, but don’t do it in the story telling and then shift to you plain speech because it confuses the listener. Do I laugh? was it supposed to be funny? I could not get past the mispronunciation of La Llorona’s famous wail, “aaay mis hijos,” ... more

  • Highly recommend

I don’t usually give 5 star ratings but this one is special. Bob does an excellent job telling the stories of diverse folklore and exploring the origins. Every episode is well researched and entertaining. The production value is very good and he uses just the right amount of music and sound effects. My favorite part is that the listener learns how to avoid or fight the folkloric creatures; you can never be too safe!

Loved the 5 minute story - nicely edited. I’m very interested in folk stories of our ancestors and really enjoyed the historical context, along with the different variations you might find around one myth.
