  • Inspiring and So Interesting

I love this pod! The variety of Mark’s guests and hearing the amazing stories keeps me coming back for more.

I’ve followed Mark because I’m originally from Seattle and attended RHS. I tuned in at first because I knew Mark would be influential in his career no matter what he did. The conversations and life stories are SO good and far beyond my expectations.

  • Silence your phones while recording!

I’d love to see if I enjoy this podcast as much as was suggested to me, but the phone notifications constantly going off in the recording keep causing me to stop and see what came in — and it’s not my phone!

EP 309: Doug Crandall- From West Point to Leadership Expert:Building Teams with Great Communication
Q: How did you get that gig?
Crandall describes the competitive process at West Point for teaching roles, including how he was brought back to teach the core leadership class and the value of leveraging opportunities to contribute to leader development.
EP: Jim Rome - From The Jungle to Reinvention: 30 Years of Sports Radio Dominance and What's Next
Q: What was the key turning point that helped you keep ego in check as you rose to prominence?
He emphasizes ownership, authenticity, and understanding the responsibility that comes with being on air, noting that his success came from treating it as a show while staying true to his values.
EP: Jim Rome - From The Jungle to Reinvention: 30 Years of Sports Radio Dominance and What's Next
Q: Tell me more about the Reinvention Project and why you wanted to start it.
Rome explains that the show began as a way to explore high achievers and peak performance, then evolved into a broader platform for deep, long-form conversations that dig into mindset, resilience, and lifecycle reinvention.
EP: Michael Allison - From Gladiator to Civilian: Transforming Performance Beyond the Arena
Q: How does the 'playzone' differ from the traditional flow state, and why is that distinction important for coaches and athletes?
Playzone is broader than flow and encompasses a coordinated physiology—breath, heart rate, movement, and social connection—that can be cultivated through attention, environment, and breathing. It allows high performers to stay flexible, creative, and collaborative under pressure, not just in peak, solitary focus.
EP: Michael Allison - From Gladiator to Civilian: Transforming Performance Beyond the Arena
Q: What sparked your interest in helping high performers manage the transition from peak competition to civilian life?
I opened a fitness and performance center to bridge rehab and real-life function, then realized patterns deeper than intention—rooted in physiology and the nervous system—were driving behavior under pressure. That insight led me to focus on how to guide the body and mind toward states that support sustainable performance and well-being beyond sport.
