  • Best preaching podcast!

This is definitely one of the best podcast out there on preaching. Mike does a fantastic job interview interviewing guests, and asks very thought-provoking questions. What I like best is the wide range of topics that deal with preaching and teaching, and also the wide range of guests. I’ve listened for several years now and this has definitely helped me as a teacher.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Temecula Debrief w/ Danny Keating (Interview In Terminal Two)
Q: What makes the weekend training different from typical teaching sessions?
It emphasizes interaction and practice, with attendees presenting seven-minute sermons and receiving fair, honest feedback in a small cohort setting, rather than just front-row teaching.
Faithfulness in Small Places and the Care of Souls
Q: How do you balance study with dependence on the Spirit in preparation?
By acknowledging both the benefits and limits of study, intentionally vetting what is needed for the congregation, and praying for the Spirit to illumine hearts, not just deliver a technically proficient sermon.
Faithfulness in Small Places and the Care of Souls
Q: What was your first sermon like, and how did the early feedback shape you as a preacher?
It was a learning process with simple three-point structure, where feedback was scarce and usually polite, which highlighted the need to be guided by the Spirit and the people he's shepherding rather than relying on formal critique.
Inductive Bible Study - Cody King
Q: How should one approach applying a biblical passage to a modern audience?
After solid observation and interpretation, identify direct commands and principles, tailor the application to the audience's real-life context, and provide concrete steps or actions to take, avoiding vague or presumed connections.
Inductive Bible Study - Cody King
Q: What is inductive Bible study?
It is a three-part process—observation, interpretation, and application—that helps readers slow down, ask good questions, understand the meaning of the text, and then translate that understanding into life and teaching.
