  • Hands-down the Best Software Podcast Out There!

What a great podcast (and not only for its focus on Elixir which is the best programming language out there), but also for the wide variety and guests! Highly recommended!

  • Technology and people in equal measure

I really like their focus on the practice of building and running technology, especially on the people aspects. While it’s pretty Elixir focussed, no ecosystem is truly an island so there are a lot of other things that get discussed. Excellent pod!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Supervised State Replication in Elixir with Micah Cooper
Q: Tell us about Visor and the motivation behind it.
Visor originated from the idea of a generic replicated log that handles cross-node state updates, enabling consistent mutation across multiple GenServers and providing a foundation for broader orchestration patterns beyond a single database's API.
The State of Security in Elixir with Holden Oullette
Q: How should developers approach security in the Elixir ecosystem, given the new tooling and evolving threats?
The guest emphasizes leveraging secure defaults, using tools like Sobelow, adopting modern build and deployment practices (OIDC, Hex signing), and combining deterministic security tooling with AI-assisted analysis to cover broader edge cases while maintaining speed.
The State of Security in Elixir with Holden Oullette
Q: Tell us a little about yourself and how you came to Elixir, and your interest in security.
Holden describes a long-running engagement with cybersecurity, his pivot from software development to application security, and stumbling into Elixir where its ecosystem provided a compelling, secure-by-default philosophy that aligned with his approach.
Set Theoretic Types in Elixir with José Valim
Q: How's it going with the set theoretic type approach? Are you happy with this approach?
It's going pretty well; we have typed the majority of the language constructs, which is a very positive indicator.
Set Theoretic Types in Elixir with José Valim
Q: What's driving you to devote so much energy into introducing a type system into Elixir?
It's a little bit of everything, driven by community interest and my personal curiosity about type systems.
