  • Hands-down the Best Software Podcast Out There!

What a great podcast (and not only for its focus on Elixir which is the best programming language out there), but also for the wide variety and guests! Highly recommended!

  • Technology and people in equal measure

I really like their focus on the practice of building and running technology, especially on the people aspects. While it’s pretty Elixir focussed, no ecosystem is truly an island so there are a lot of other things that get discussed. Excellent pod!

The Missing GitHub Status Page with Marek Šuppa
Q: What lessons do you think developers should take away about relying on a single platform like GitHub?
Developers should consider the perception gap between perceived uptime and actual performance, and prepare for workarounds or alternatives when central platforms face outages or shifts in strategy, including the importance of local workflows and open data to maintain productivity during incidents.
The Missing GitHub Status Page with Marek Šuppa
Q: How does the project handle data quality and labeling when GitHub's own labels are incomplete?
Marek describes a small classifier that works in a few-shot/zero-shot manner to assign incidents to GitHub components, and notes that the project has three years of data with some labeled data from GitHub itself, which is used to retrain and improve labeling.
The Missing GitHub Status Page with Marek Šuppa
Q: Could you explain exactly what the Missing GitHub Status Page tracks and how it works?
The project aggregates daily incidents data from GitHub and related services to recreate a status picture that reflects uptime more granularly than the official page. It classifies incidents and renders a broader view of platform health, aiming to provide a more realistic
Cloud Fragility & Distributed Systems with Somtochi Onyekwere
Q: What changes have you noticed in the infrastructure landscape, especially around AI and sandboxing?
There's a broad shift toward AI-enabled workflows, with products like Sprites offering persistent sandboxes and near-seamless transitions from model prompting to deployment, while companies experiment with AI workloads and model proximity to users.
Cloud Fragility & Distributed Systems with Somtochi Onyekwere
Q: Can you tell us a little about your background and what you're doing at Fly.io now?
I'm a software engineer at Fly.io working on Corrosion, an open-source distributor system for replicating SQLite data across thousands of nodes, with a focus on multi-writer and eventual consistency to power the network layer and platform components.
