Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 43: Sudan—Does international law have anything to say?

There is no one-size-fits-all answer; the guests argue for a nuanced approach that centers victims and uses a mix of mechanisms, while acknowledging that sustained peace enhances the likelihood of meaningful justice.
Episode 43: Sudan—Does international law have anything to say?
Q: What is the role of international criminal law in addressing the Sudan conflict?
It provides a framework to document and potentially prosecute crimes, but practical progress is hampered by access, geopolitical dynamics, and the need for political will to pursue accountability alongside peace.
Episode 40: Palestinian Legal Frontiers: SC Res 2803 and beyond
Q: How does the Trump Peace Plan relate to existing UN frameworks?
It lacks a reaffirmation of previous principles outlined in past resolutions, potentially reframing the discourse on Palestinian rights and statehood.
Episode 34: In the Family: Family Tropes in International Law
Q: How can the metaphor of the family help us think differently about international law?
Marks emphasizes that reflecting on the family as a metaphor can expose power dynamics and challenge normative structures in international law.
Episode 34: In the Family: Family Tropes in International Law
Q: Why did you write this piece?
Susan Marks explains that the idea of the world as a family isn't unique to one culture and addresses how this representation can obscure divisions in society.
