Thank you for these book recommendations

I gifted one (DCC) to my son for his birthday and he was thrilled that I had heard of it!

Turns out he’s on book seven! Apple were unbelievably helpful in changing it and that involved speaking to a HUMAN.

Since when has the economist become a sucker to angry blue haired nose-pierced anti-Israel liberal leftist ‘activists’? Small wonder you have lost your standing. Grow a backbone!

  • Culture Correspondents that don‘t know who Dua Lipa is, shouldn‘t be Culture Correspondents 😂😂

Also, you should provide an E Mail for Feedback, so that I don‘t have to write this as a review. I gave a low score bc I thought the culture section on celeb book clubs was utterly embarassing and snobbish. Saying that Instead of listening to reviews I should read every book is quite naive, maybe your culture correspondent has too much time on her hands 😂.To clarify: I have never listened to celeb book clubs and prob never will, though I was still cringing at the segment. Thank you

  • Obituaries

Besides all the other wonderful content on this podcast, I really look forward to the obituaries segment. Especially, Anne Wroe: always find her voice, her choices of the wide variety of people to highlight, and her writing, a joy to listen to and follow up on. Thank you Economist!

  • Used to listen until today

Today they decided to become a propaganda outlet for the trump regime and I canceled my economist subscriptions in their entirety. He has never been brave, and you have been brainwashed. Shameful reporting.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Number crunch: why Britons ignore immigrant drop
Q: A question for you, Joel, about the soul of the average Briton. Why the anti-immigration stance in a general sense?
British people don't hate immigrants, they hate disorder at the border; they accept newcomers when they are integrated and seen as contributing, but anxiety spikes around perceived border control failures and the strain on public services.
Mistrusting the process: containing Congo’s Ebola outbreak
Q: Now, you said that realities on the ground are making matters tougher. What do you mean by that?
The combination of extreme poverty, widespread conflict, refugees, and deep distrust of authorities complicates efforts to test, isolate, and treat patients, and it means local communities may resist external help even when it's needed.
Deal or ordeal: Trump’s bad options in Cuba
Q: What would be the most realistic path forward if not military action?
A negotiated deal that opens up the economy and gradually transitions the political system, while rebuilding private investment and releasing political prisoners, could be possible but requires significant mutual concessions from both sides and a sustained international framework.
Deal or ordeal: Trump’s bad options in Cuba
Q: And so do you think a military option is a good option for the Trump administration, for Cuba, for Cubans?
The argument is that a military option is unlikely to work, carries high risks, and there's no straightforward exit; the Cuban regime is deeply entrenched, and a strike or invasion would likely be counterproductive or at least insufficient to change the regime.
New world of warcraft: how conflict has forever changed
Q: What should the next generation of armies look like given these shifts?
There won't be a single cookie-cutter answer; armies will need to blend legacy capabilities with new drone and cyber/electronic warfare elements, emphasize flexibility, deterrence, and rapid adaptation, and consider hybrid fleets and extended reach.
