  • 4/23/26 episode with fellows of AIPAC-funded The Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP)

Why isn’t Rachman making clear that the two panelists’ parent organization is funded by AIPAC, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee?

I was wondering why the two panelists seemed so careful in discussing the Iran War situation, so I had to look up WINEP on Wikipedia:

“John Mearsheimer, a University of Chicago political science professor, and Stephen Walt, academic dean at Harvard Kennedy School at Harvard University, described it [WINEP] as ‘part of the core’ of the pro-Israeli lob... more

  • Disappointed

to see interview with Bill Gates after emails recently released show that he had a relationship with Epstein, relations with “Russian girls” and attempted to drug his wife so she wouldn’t find about about his STI from the “Russian girls”. What a deplorable man. The fact that this was not explicitly addressed and the decision to post this interview revised reveals something of how seriously Gideon Rachman takes, and objects to, association with a known perpetrator of child sexual abuse - i.e. not... more

  • Reflexively left

Gideon features commentators who appear more concerned about discrediting the Trump administration than conveying thoughtful analysis. In the most recent example, a commentator claims that the administration‘s actions are purely the result of Marco Rubio’s personal agenda. He doesn’t mention that this is consistent with Trump’s first administration. In the same episode, the unsubstantiated claims that the administration has a racial agenda go unchallenged. This show is a prime example of why the... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Britain’s post-Brexit policy options
Q: How did David Lammy and you handle the relationship with the US, especially with Vice President Vance?
Rachman notes that Lammy aimed to build durable diplomatic channels with the US, while Vance's outspoken, interventionist stance challenged traditional diplomacy; the dynamic underscored the need for strong, nuanced communication within the special relationship.
Britain’s post-Brexit policy options
Q: What are the choices there when it comes to China?
Judah explains Britain faces a twofold dilemma: treat China as a strategic security and geo-economic threat or see it as an opportunity, and the right balance may require a coordinated coalition with Europe and other Western allies to defend Western industry while managing economic ties.
The backlash against AI
Q: Does it show that the backlash against AI is growing?
Mallaby explains that backlash is growing, especially among graduates feeling disruption in the labor market, and that fear is amplified by high-profile headlines even as data sometimes complicates simplistic causal links to AI.
Mitsotakis on Hormuz, Iran and how to escape a debt trap
Q: What role should Europe play in defense and strategic autonomy?
Mitsotakis emphasizes building European strategic autonomy through stronger defense capabilities, supporting NATO while enhancing EU-level coordination, and pursuing mechanisms like 42.7 to provide a practical security framework that complements existing alliances.
Mitsotakis on Hormuz, Iran and how to escape a debt trap
Q: How should Europe respond to the Strait of Hormuz situation without encouraging a tolling precedent?
Greece believes that tolls or fees set a dangerous precedent and Europe should uphold free navigation, strengthening collective security and pursuing negotiated settlement rather than capitulating to unilateral charging schemes.
