  • Focus on Fidelity

The program on Fidelity was interesting. Unfortunately, the presenters did not discuss how Fidelity is likely to address the problems and challenges of selling private equity assets to retail investors and 401k account holders. The issues associated with private equity assets are frequently highlighted in the Financial Times! This foray into the private equity world is not going to end well. A brief mention should have been made about the potential dangers of private equity assets. Similarly, ho... more

  • Not bad, but superficial

In almost 30 minutes of discussion about OpenAI no one discussed the obvious. For OpenAI to massively grow revenue they have to stay in the lead. Anthropic, Google, xAI, and even Deepseek will have something to say about that. OpenAIs lead has dwindled, the gap between commercial and freely available AI models has closed, and many competitors have healthy cash flow already.

  • Good podcast with poor speech quality

I really enjoy Behind the Money podcasts and this one about GE Vernon is a good example. The podcast provided good information but am sorry to note that the speech quality of Amanda Chu makes it so difficult to understand. Please, please get some speech training, you are a great reporter,

Michaela Tindera, - keep up the great work.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

How ancient Mesopotamians solved runaway debt
Q: What did daily life look like in Mesopotamia's economy, and how did debt fit into it?
Most people worked in agriculture or related trades; rents, taxes, and debt tied into the palace and temple estates. Debts arose when people borrowed to cover harvest shortfalls, with the system often using intermediaries who converted grain into silver for tax collection.
Best of: How the diamond industry lost its sparkle
Q: Could Taylor Swift's engagement ring and public endorsement affect demand for natural diamonds?
Yes, high-profile endorsements can dramatically shift consumer perception and willingness to pay for natural diamonds, reinforcing the luxury narrative and potentially increasing demand for higher-end stones.
Best of: How the diamond industry lost its sparkle
Q: Leslie, why would you say that this sale matters for the diamond industry writ large?
The sale could redefine ownership, strategy, and marketing direction for the entire sector, influencing how other natural-diamond players position themselves and how the industry approaches pricing, branding, and innovation.
Wall Street and crypto battle over the future of money
Q: What are banks most worried about with stable coins paying interest?
They fear deposit flight, where customers move money from traditional banks to crypto platforms to earn higher interest, which would reduce banks' lending capacity and disrupt the core banking model.
Wall Street and crypto battle over the future of money
Q: What does the Genius Act do for stable coins, and why does it matter to Wall Street?
It establishes a federal regulatory framework for stable coins, providing guardrails that banks can operate within and enabling more legitimate use of stable coins in payments, which in turn accelerates crypto's integration into the broader financial system.
