《断代》的故事背景，时空承接稍早年我演播过的白先勇先生的《孽子》，和电影小说《刻在在你心底的名字》，从八十年代的台湾社会写起，一路到二十一世纪的当代，在时代的剧烈变迁之间，纵向描绘了一个世代的同志形象。
郭强生借这本作品，抛出“爱是什么？”“同志/我的存在究竟是什么？”等终极提问，让我们通过这些问题更清楚地看见自己。
