  • Phenomenal

I listened to these podcasts a week ago and have already used the information both in improving relationships with people and applied to helping others problem solve issues they have struggled with for years. I am also excited to see the difference it will make for the athletes that I have referred this to. Today’s podcast was the best yet but I feel like I think that every time!

  • Applicable for everyone!

Very easy to listen and apply to my football players. My players have listened and have told me it’s easy to put into practice the different tools that Ben and Zeek provide.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#152 - Dr. Chris Carr on Performance Psychology, Mental Health, and Preparing Athletes for Pressure
Q: Why do you make the distinction between performance psychology and sports psychology?
He explains that the distinction is practical: performance psychology frames all athletic life as performance-related, while recognizing boundaries with therapy when appropriate; the core tools (goal setting, mental rehearsal) are taught and implemented across contexts, but confidentiality and licensure color how work is delivered.
#151 - Dillon Thieneman on Preparation, Pressure, and Playing Free in the NFL
Q: How did you handle high-pressure moments and maintain focus during big games?
I relied on a strong pre-game routine, visualizing plays, and treating practice reps like real game reps; when the moment came, I trusted the preparation, played with tempo, and reset quickly after mistakes.
#151 - Dillon Thieneman on Preparation, Pressure, and Playing Free in the NFL
Q: Can you describe the first steps that helped you shift from being good to truly valuing preparation and film study?
The shift began in freshman year when I wasn't the biggest or most physical, so I focused on extra work after practice, studying film, and understanding the defense; over time this created speed, confidence, and a routine that carried through to college.
#148 - Relationships First: Real world lessons learned from athletics with Myron Burr Jr.
Q: How does routine help you, and how do you manage flexibility when things go off schedule?
Routine helps limit decisions and provides comfort, but one must be ready to adapt when things change, similar to next play mentality.
#148 - Relationships First: Real world lessons learned from athletics with Myron Burr Jr.
Q: What challenges do you see in coaching younger athletes?
Building relationships with young athletes to understand their individual needs is crucial for effective coaching.
