  • Poorly researched

Been following this podcast for a while but never really listened much. The Aqaba desalinization episode piqued my interest since I’m Jordanian.

    Several problems stood out:

    1. That Eurocentric snarky comment at the beginning is stupid.

    2. Water tanks on roofs, wrong information.

    3. Reasons for levels of water scarcity, you fail to mention the geopolitical problems with our neighbors which also play a major role in straining Jordanians water access.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Invested by Europe: How sustainable liquid fuels will decarbonise aviation and shipping
Q: So normal fuels but better, right?
Yes, the goal is to produce SLFs at scale in Europe so that we reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels and create a secure, domestic supply chain for aviation and shipping.
Invested by Europe: How sustainable liquid fuels will decarbonise aviation and shipping
Q: So what happens if Europe is too slow? Aren't we triggering a different kind of dependence?
If Europe stalls, other regions will invest and we may become dependent on external SLF suppliers, which is precisely what we want to avoid by leading in technology and regulation.
Invested by Europe: How sustainable liquid fuels will decarbonise aviation and shipping
Q: I guess, you know, that's a completely different game. And then I keep hearing about these alternatives, these sustainable liquid fuels, but what does it actually mean?
SLFs are basically normal fuels that work in existing engines but are produced in a way that emits much less CO2, making them a viable decarbonization option for aviation and shipping where electrification is not yet sufficient.
Invested by Europe: Why Biotech is Vital to Europe’s Economy as well as its Health
Q: So again, it's very important to note that Europe stands very strong in this market segment. And in order to remain as strong, we need to indeed keep in mind the challenges that this sector is facing, which is basically the long development time of the product, the fragmentation of the EU market.
The discussion highlights the need for harmonization, better access to capital, and cross-border investment within the EU to sustain Europe's biotech leadership.
Invested by Europe: How Cleantech is Driving Europe’s Energy Transition
Q: Your role in clean tech investment here at the EIB, what do you spend your weeks doing?
She explains the EIC Fund's three main verticals (digital, life sciences, green tech), how they evaluate opportunities, support portfolio companies through fundraising and board involvement, and connect with the broader investor ecosystem to crowd in private capital.
