Casting Call is like a Hollywood singing competition, but for people who are pros at audio interviews and non-fiction storytelling. On the show, an esteemed panel of judges will join host Jonathan Goldstein to vet submissions from aspiring podcast hosts across the country, and select three finalists to travel to Gimlet HQ to make a pilot of their show. One talented hopeful will have their pilot tu... more

Another homerun for Gimlet. It’s like American Idol but for podcasts
I binged on, and loved every single one of the Casting Call episodes, but especially all three pilots. I was counting on those shows being made! My favorite one about talking to the dying didn’t win, but I thought that “An Exciting Business Opportunity” was a good idea too. However, they got the host but didn’t make the initial podcast idea. Instead, a much less interesting show popped up, which is kinda disappointing, to say the least.
I loved the show and always love Jonathan Goldstein, but was disappointed to find out that the actual podcast was not the one they pitched and made the pilot of. What happened to “An Exciting Business Opportunity?” I was really looking forward to that.
So much potential but the winning host from season 1 completely abandoned the project that won and the 2nd season is a sort of rambling audio diary of mundane, young adult angst. Unfortunately not engaging.
The competition episodes were good but So Help Me is just not entertaining. Should’ve had a different winner
