I started listening to Blooms and Barnacles six months ago and have finished every available episode. It has helped me unlock the doors of Ulysses and explore every room.
This is my third attempt at the book, which for better or worse now lives in my head, heart and soul.
Kelly and Dermot are excellent companions. Kelly is profoundly intelligent and deeply well read. Dermot is kind, perceptive and just the right amount of curmudgeonly.
It’s a huge undertaking. I hope they finish it. This podc... more
I’ve purposely avoided Joyce for 30 years. When I recently found a copy of Ulysses at the Goodwill, with the internet support, I decided it was time to give it a go. The Podcast makes the whole Ulysses experience better. Great job and the pictures are great.
Love this production. Since the loss of Frank Delaney’s ReJoyce this has become my go-to podcast for all things Ulysses.
I enjoy reding Ulysses with this podcast! I listen to your podcast while reading paragraph by paragraph! Guys you are just fantastic! Your work is just incredibly helping! Thank you so so so much! p.s. Amount of exclamation marks in my comment cannot describe my appreciation for you guys!
Have only started this podcast. Up to Ep 18 & have found it a real gateway in cracking open Ulysses. The general information, interviews given, have added a dimension that with my modern public education seriously lacked. Thanks so much as a 59 year old, I can finally say I am reading Ulyssses & enjoying it.

A non-academic, warmly written exploration of Joyce's Ulysses, mixing close reading with cultural context, humor, and accessible commentary. Episodes thread line-by-line analysis with tangents into Irish history, art, and cinema references, making dense material feel welcoming to both new readers and long-time fans. A noteworthy strength is the hosts' balance of rigor and charm, often weaving personal anecdotes and guest insights to illuminate the text without alienating casual listeners. This approach likely appeals to literature lovers who enjoy a friendly, podcast‑club vibe with plenty of cross-disciplinary tidbits.
