  • Columbian Exchange fascinating

The Columbian Exchange for me is the best episode under Misha Glenny‘s new reign. I knew about it before but these three experts achieve what makes In Our Time so special: they enlighten us about a subject. Still missing Melvyn, hardly surprising after so many years, but now I have the feeling Misha is getting there. He interrupts a little less and that is right for the flow in the talk about this fascinating topic!

  • John Keats

A bit disappointing, too much on Keat’s life and not enough detail on the poetry. Some of the greatest such as Ode to Autumn and Grecian Urn not mentioned & no real analysis of his thought from the poems.

  • Bully

Bragg was a bully, the interruptions of the female guests were unbearably painful. Not just for his misogyny but for actually ending interesting conversations. These guests were scholars, people who devoted their lives to their subjects and Bragg in his ignorance destroyed any possible cohesion of the programme.

The Emily Dickinson episode, recently unearthed, was torture. No thank you.

  • Thank you Melvin & best wishes to Misha

The BBC is an uninterruptible source of deeply stimulating broadcasts, and Melvin’s marvelous discussions have been a leader in that respect. If one word can sum up the In Our Time shows I’ve listened to, it is “humanity”, which Melvin casts over his audience, his guests and in an odd sort of way even over the show’s topic. It is Melvin Bragg’s truest gift, one which on occasion brings to mind another great hero of British broadcasting, Alistair Cooke. Thank you so much, Melvin, I hope time w... more

  • Great concept, but bad host

I really wanted to enjoy this podcast, but the host is unbearable. He constantly interrupts his guests. Also, his heavy breathing in the mic is incredibly distracting and annoying; it’s what made me finally quit.
