  • Great information

I love this podcast, I adopted my horse from a rescue so I am learning how to care for my horse. My horse is about 25 years old, I give her the beet pulp shreds with some of the treats in them, I soak them for about 15 minutes. She loves them & I give it to her on the days I ride afterwards.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep. 105: 5 Nutrition Mistakes Horse Owners Make in Winter
Q: What are the five winter nutrition mistakes being discussed?
The host outlines the five mistakes: neglecting vitamin E, feeding occasional bran mashes, not monitoring water temperature or intake, ignoring salt and electrolyte needs, and feeding more grain to keep warm; each is followed by practical fixes such as supplementation, warming water, consistent diet, year-round electrolytes, and prioritizing forage.
Ep. 103: How to Balance Forage-Based or Grain-Free Diets & Bust Common Myths – Part 2
Q: Can a forage-based or grain-free approach support endurance horses, and what about the role of grain on race days?
Endurance horses can be fed forage-based diets with careful planning; fat and fiber become important, and small amounts of grain may be useful on race days for palatability and calories, though not always necessary.
Ep. 103: How to Balance Forage-Based or Grain-Free Diets & Bust Common Myths – Part 2
Q: How would you approach feeding a large herd if you want to go grain-free?
Start with at least two forages (one low-calorie and one high-calorie), assess pasture intake, then choose a grain-free ration balancer to fill gaps and use calorie supplements for hard keepers, brood mares, or performance horses; it's more complex but doable with careful planning.
Ep. 103: How to Balance Forage-Based or Grain-Free Diets & Bust Common Myths – Part 2
Q: What can replace grain when switching to a forage-based diet, and would a balancer supply the vitamins and minerals missing from grain?
Yes, in many cases a ration balancer or vitamin/mineral supplement can adequately replace the missing nutrients when grain is reduced or removed, especially if forage intake is consistent and nutrient gaps are identified.
Ep. 107: Horsemanship, Rodeo, and Legacy with NFR Saddle Bronc Rider Mitch Pollock
Q: How did you decide to switch from baseball to saddle bronc riding, and what kept you focused on that goal?
I decided to pursue saddle bronc riding after seeing a path forward and had the mindset to give 100% and not back down. I believed I could be the best and worked relentlessly toward that, which helped me progress quickly.
