  • A technical horse owners dream!

As a podcast lover and horse owner for over a decade, finding this podcast has brought me so much joy. After discovering just about a month ago, I have binged almost all the episodes! I love learning about researched backed ways to care for my horses and this it the format that works best for me. Dr. Lacher aligns with the ways that my vet treats my horse and provides such great explanations to questions I didn’t even know I had! I finished reading Adventures of The Horse Doctors Husband 1 and h... more

  • Every Horse Lover NEEDS this podcast…it’s the best rabbit hole around!

I discovered Dr. Lacher and Justin Long’s huge stash of wonderfully educational and fun horse centric podcasts just a few weeks ago. I haven’t listened to anything else since. This lifelong horse girl has learned so much from this content that I can say that they’ve certainly succeeded at their goal of making the world a better place for horses…

Smart, but plain language, technical, but just enough for appropriate application, real world information, a lot I did not even know I needed, and alway... more

Ya’ll are awesome! I love how opinionated dr lacher is. Not a bad thing and really makes you think she knows her stuff! I’ve read their book on becoming an equine veterinarian. She’s definitely inspired me!! Thanks so much!

  • Awesome info

Your podcast helped me to diagnose and treat my horses sweet itch! Her entire chest became open sores and once I nailed down what to do, we now have it under control. I tell all my friends about your podcast and share it to them. Wound care, general info, joints, it’s all great! I am also in Florida so your remarks on our weather and special influences here help me very much. I would love to hear a podcast on what vets do to narrow down “mystery lameness”!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S9E11 Dental Care for the Stages of Life
Q: Why is it important to not rush removing baby teeth, like wolf teeth or caps?
Removing a baby tooth too early can leave an unsealed blood vessel and create infection risk; timing matters to let the tooth shed naturally when ready to avoid complications.
S9E11 Dental Care for the Stages of Life
Q: Tell me about number nine and why it matters.
Number nine is the first molar on the upper jaw and the tooth that has the longest potential to cause problems later in life, so it's a critical one to monitor in yearlings and young horses.
S9E05 Colic Mythbusting
Q: What does Banemine actually do in colic treatment?
Banemine provides transient pain relief and helps with GI motility indirectly, but it does not cure colic and overuse can mask symptoms, potentially delaying more definitive treatment.
S9E05 Colic Mythbusting
Q: True or False: We should walk our colics.
False. Walking colics is a harmful myth; horses should not be walked in the hope of curing colic, and in many cases movement can worsen the situation, especially if the horse is in pain or at risk of a twist.
S8E22 Vaccines and Horses
Q: Can titers be checked for other vaccinations aside from rabies?
While titers can be checked for encephalitis, no clear protective levels are known aside from rabies titers.
