  • Skate nerd paradise

Excellent podcast for any skate nerd like me wanting a skate podcast with a bit more brain and authenticity than some of the other skate podcasts out there. And it keeps on getting better. The list of previous interviewees is just so impressive and interesting, with a great mix of nationalities and occupations, from relatively unknown names to “top-tear” skaters or industry heads. Keep it up, Quentin. You’re killing it!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 124 - Ben Koppl
Q: How did you manage to carve out a skate career without being heavily tied to the skate media or industry?
He explains that entering skateboarding during the rise of social media allowed direct-to-consumer storytelling, traveling to unfamiliar spots, and building a unique niche through cultural exploration, collaboration, and authentic content rather than relying on traditional sponsorship pipelines.
Episode 123 - Matt Rodriguez
Q: Where did the idea of loose trucks come from and how does it affect your skating?
Rodriguez explains that loose trucks require balance and precision, treating the board like a beam and focusing on the base plate, which creates a unique feel and challenge.
Episode 121 - Harry Meadley
Q: What is the point of skating inside art galleries?
The point is to illustrate a form of artistic practice that challenges fixed views of art and artists, and to push galleries to become more adaptable and inclusive, thereby allowing skate culture to contribute to gallery education and social dialogue.
Episode 120 - Leo Baker
Q: What motivated you to start your own brands after experiences with sponsorships and existing labels?
I felt a drive to create spaces that reflect my identity and experiences, to mentor younger skaters, to shape the culture beyond traditional sponsorships, and to maintain creative control over art, music, and product.
Episode 118 - Danny Garcia
Q: What are the parallels between the music industry and the skateboarding industry, and did anything from skating help you in music?
There are business parallels, but more importantly, the mindset of continual self-discovery and refining your craft. The process of becoming good at music mirrors skateboarding in that you must go through a long, if imperfect, developmental arc and learn to find your own voice rather than chasing external validation.
