  • Relatable & Applicable

We can sit around and read “airport leadership” books all day and get all kinds of principles, and maybe there’s nothing wrong with that, but what I like about this podcast is that it’s real people, with real stories. Tim asks great questions and I feel as if we are all sitting at some cafe table just chatting about how leadership actually works. Can’t wait for more. Well done.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Fog of Work with Adam Tarnow
Q: What makes this approach so actionable for mid-level managers who feel stuck in day-to-day realities?
By forcing a concrete pause to list controllables, leaders gain clarity, energy, and a path forward, even when outcomes seem uncertain or out of their control.
The Fog of Work with Adam Tarnow
Q: How did you arrive at this concept of the valley and the fog clearing sentence, and how does someone begin applying it in real life?
It started from a personal storytelling process about promotion into a valley, then codifying a simple three-part sentence—'I don't control X, but I do control Y, so I will Z'—and practicing it in coaching and workshops until it became a practical operating system for leaders.
Seeing Leadership as a Gift with Mike Matheny
Q: Talk a little bit about how you ended up writing the Matheny Manifesto and what you hoped to achieve with it.
The manifesto started as a candid attempt to guide parents and players toward focusing on character and life lessons, not just baseball results, and it evolved into a framework for rethinking success and leadership in youth sports.
Lead with (un)Common Sense with David Mead
Q: What are the three main umbrella characteristics you focus on in your framework?
The three core traits are honesty, humility, and humanity, which together form a framework that leads to trust, psychological safety, and meaningful human connection.
