Echo asking Admiral McRaven how to become an admiral has got to be a classic. The recent episode with Stumpf he had another banger, asking if it’s a good idea to try the wing suite above water on your first jump. Lots of wisdom and life lessons shared between Stumpf, Jocko and of course Echo with the important questions.

Dragged. It’s not drug or drugged. Those are different meanings. So often I hear this on podcasts. As an English teacher, it’s irritating to hear on multiple podcasts. Also, it’s dive, dove or dived and not doven.

Jocko Underground: What Would You Do If Someone Steals From You?
Q: What would you do in this situation?
Evaluate ownership, verify if the bike is actually the stolen one, involve the police, and prefer a cautious approach that prioritizes safety and a clean resolution over vigilante action; if a quick restitution is possible with minimal risk, that can be considered, but avoid escalation or illegal actions.
Jocko Underground: How To Develop The "I Don't Quit" Mind Set.
Q: I'm an avid CrossFit athlete who wants to start BJJ and manage time under pressure. How should I balance training with school and cultivate resilience without burning out?
Integrate stress through varied, discipline-building workouts and ensure consistency over intensity. Prioritize what truly matters, allocate time to practice and recovery, and use short, decisive actions to prevent procrastination. Embrace the mindset that you'll handle whatever comes next, treat tasks with urgency, and maintain forward momentum rather than chasing perfection in every single effort.
Jocko Underground: How To Develop The "I Don't Quit" Mind Set.
Q: I'm a high school senior, preparing to matriculate at Virginia Military Institute in August. What advice do you have regarding time management under stress and developing a don't-quit mindset?
Focus on stress inoculation by taking on hard, stressful activities now, plan to do important tasks immediately rather than delaying, and recognize that some tasks only need good-enough effort rather than perfection. Treat training and exams as games to manage emotion and detach when necessary, and keep your plan clear: don't allow yourself a tempting plan B, and push through without seeking easy exits.
Jocko Underground: The Ups and Downs If You Won The Lottery
Q: How should I handle requests from family and friends after winning the lottery?
Set firm boundaries early, say no consistently, and avoid giving reasons that can be negotiated or debated. Consider public-facing explanations or moving funds into a trusted structure like a trust or executor to prevent ongoing pressure.
Jocko Underground: Making The Mental Shift Upward
Q: What advice would you give someone transitioning from solo operator to building a team?
It's crucial to develop leadership skills by consuming related literature and actively applying principles to your context, gradually expanding your team, and ensuring clear communication of the mission.
