  • Very bro-y

The takes are fine, mostly things I have already heard or read from other STL or national media, but that’s ok. The show is just very, very bro-y. Way too many references to “having balls” for my taste, and way to much talk about betting lines. Audio quality has improved since they started but I still wouldn’t call it “good.” I listen when I have time, but Ball Watching is maybe the third or fourth best STL City podcast.

  • It’s Like North Korean Media

The guys are Ok, they are clearly being paid to be non critical and to be super optimistic and encourage everyone to buy season tickets, they used to be a little more objective but this last episode was laughable, they are clearly a front office plant as they talked for 10 minutes about how they loved the new Tina Turner kit. It’s a joke at this point

  • Like the pod, but something’s wrong with the Apple Feed

I listened to Ball Watching regularly throughout 2024, but in 2025, there seems to be some kind of an issue with their feed on Apple Podcasts. I don’t have this issue with any of my other podcasts, but when I attempt to play the latest episode, it always comes back telling me “This episode can’t play on this device”. If they’ve launched a subscription to view the latest episode on Apple Podcasts, that hasn’t been clear to me, but otherwise it doesn’t seem to be an issue on my end.

  • Podcast for commercials with some STL content on the side

The most recent podcast had them live pitching product for close to 10 minutes in a 50 min episode. They are much more excited and animated when selling than discussing the team. Takes are basic and reaction based. An average sport gambling bros podcast. A poor STL City podcast.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

(Road to '26) Paul Tenorio, Senior Writer at The Athletic for USMNT & MLS
Q: Who is the dark-horse to watch in this World Cup for the US, and who might surprise people by scoring?
Go into the discussion with a few under-the-radar picks, highlighting players who could emerge as breakout contributors beyond the most obvious stars.
(Road to '26) Paul Tenorio, Senior Writer at The Athletic for USMNT & MLS
Q: Bigger long term impact on American soccer, Messi or the 2026 World Cup?
Right now I'm leaning toward the 2026 World Cup as the bigger long-term catalyst because it's tied to national performance, league growth, and the country's soccer identity over time.
(Road to '26) Paul Tenorio, Senior Writer at The Athletic for USMNT & MLS
Q: If you could only use one word, one word to describe the Messi era, what would you use?
The host presses for a single descriptor, but the guest shares that it's a nuanced era—commercial, transformative, and still unfolding—so a single word may not capture the full impact.
(Road to '26) Jozy Altidore, Former USMNT Striker & Chief Strategy Officer at Sogility
Q: What are two key benefits you see from your experience at Sogility?
The two key benefits are an emphasis on environment creation that motivates players to train with purpose, and the integration of data to objectively track improvement in skills like vision, dribbling, and first touch.
(Road to '26) Jozy Altidore, Former USMNT Striker & Chief Strategy Officer at Sogility
Q: What does Sogility really help advance in terms of that player's pathway and skills?
Sogility blends quantitative data with qualitative coaching to create an environment that accelerates learning, personalizes development plans, and makes training more accessible and affordable for families.
