  • Smarter and savvy

I’ve followed Matt Doyle’s writing for a long time and am happy to have found him and this crew of commentators. The perspective as well as the approach is so much more realistic and analytical on the realities of the game in the US and the world but well beyond the surface level perception that you see everywhere else.

  • “Soccer is for ALL”

I respect their soccer takes from time to time but for a show that always promotes “soccer being for everyone” they always choose to alienate a group of listeners that don’t think politically the same way they do whenever that topic comes into conversation. Not saying they can’t share their opinion but how about having someone on who challenges their thinking with an opposite POV when politics gets involved with soccer instead of just living with their buddies in an echo chamber. Makes it hard f... more

  • Stay above the yelling!

This show is my go to for all things MLS and has been a fantastic daily listen during the World Cup. Generally great dialogue between the hosts without devolving into talk radio type sound bites.

However, on the June 30 show it was really tough to listen to as the three hosts were yelling over each other, mostly about Japan. Please don’t become WFAN!!!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Open Mic | How KC Current Are Building a Global Women's Soccer Network
Q: How does KC Current view youth development and the second team?
They describe a spiderweb of pathways from Brazil and Denmark to Kansas City, with the second team serving as a bridge for post-college players to reach pro levels, and a broader ecosystem designed to be a true Academy-to-Pro pathway rather than a single club path.
Open Mic | How KC Current Are Building a Global Women's Soccer Network
Q: Why expand outside the NWSL and choose HB Køge in Denmark?
The guests explain the multi-club model as a way to create fixed overhead benefits, talent pathways, and different strategic reasons for each market; Denmark offered a strong blend of culture, law, and proximity to Europe, plus a ready-made path to Champions League participation.
US Soccerwise | Is the U.S. Soccer Development Pathway Working?
Q: How does the college landscape fit into the development pipeline for American players today?
It remains a meaningful part of the ecosystem, offering development opportunities, exposure, and a path back to MLS or abroad, while acknowledging that MLS academies and European moves are increasingly influential. The goal is flexibility and collaboration across pathways.
Open Mic | Vanni Sartini on MLS, U.S. Soccer & His Coaching Future
Q: What lessons from Italy and other European systems can the US/Canada incorporate to improve coaching quality and national-team performance?
The guest suggests a blend of club-coach leadership with national teams, a unified coaching philosophy across levels, and strong youth-to-professional pipelines, adapting approaches to local culture while learning from successful European models.
Open Mic | Vanni Sartini on MLS, U.S. Soccer & His Coaching Future
Q: How do you view promotion/relegation in MLS and its effect on coaching pressure and player development?
He argues that while MLS lacks relegation, there is significant pressure to perform due to playoffs and competitive balance, and that better financial incentives and a clear governance structure would enhance accountability without resorting to relegation.
