Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Brendan Eygabroat, Head Baseball Coach, UMass Bost
Q: What is your approach to recruiting and evaluating character in players beyond raw talent?
I look for athleticism, passion for the game, leadership potential, and a strong work ethic. I assess body language, resilience under adversity, and whether players are true teammates who hold themselves and others accountable.
Adam Taraska, Head Baseball Coach, SUNY Purchase
Q: What were the early days like transitioning to college coaching, and how did you stay in the game?
He describes starting in high school coaching, then Caldwell, then Iona and Fairfield, learning from mentors, and taking steps that eventually led to Purchase, emphasizing persistence, networking, and willingness to take risks.
Adam Taraska, Head Baseball Coach, SUNY Purchase
Q: When did you realize college baseball was going to be in the cards, and what led you to UB?
Taraska explains that he pursued college baseball early, used VHS tapes to showcase himself, and ended up at the University of Bridgeport after UB showed interest through Pat Hall and the staff, which set the stage for his coaching career.
Kristaps Aldins, Head Baseball Coach, Stevens Institute of Technology
Q: So after MIT, now you make the move, I want to say the year is 2010, you go to Harvard. Is that accurate?
You got it right along the way there was a stop in the NECBL as another volunteer, a small stipend, and then I moved toward Harvard, with coaching at MIT preceding that.
Alex Jurczynski, Head Baseball Coach, Siena University
Q: What is your recruiting approach at Siena and what do you look for in players?
We recruit hungry, coachable, high-character players who are growth-minded and want to contribute to a strong team culture; defensively solid players who can compete and handle the mental side of the game are prioritized, and we also consider how players could fit long-term with leadership roles on the team.
