  • Must Listen for College Baseball Fans

This podcast is ESSENTIAL for anyone remotely interested in college baseball. The group of personalities is dynamic and they are fantastic at growing the game. They took me from a single team fan to someone who watches a mid major matchup in the midweek to stay in the know. D1 Daily pods get me through the days with little baseball to watch.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Auburn's Butch Thompson, D1Baseball's Joe Healy [Sidearm Delivery]
Q: What led to Auburn's move to strengthen the pitching staff and how has that changed their weekends?
The shift to move Andres Alvarez into the rotation and place Jackson Sanders in a bullpen role created a reliable bullpen hammer and allowed Sanders to close games and provide length, which has produced better wins and more stability on weekends.
Cal Baptist's Gary Adcock, D1Baseball's Eric Sorenson (Sidearm Delivery)
Q: What has been the biggest challenge of making the transition from NAIA to Division I?
The biggest challenge is navigating the four-year postseason ineligibility during the transition, while still recruiting and developing players who can contribute immediately. It's about projecting future potential, building depth, and keeping players motivated and engaged even when they can't compete for NCAA tournaments yet.
Nebraska's Will Bolt, D1Baseball's Patrick Ebert [Sidearm Delivery]
Q: How does the lineup construction balance one-through-nine consistency with leveraging the best hitters early in the order?
They prioritize putting their best on-base guys at the top while maintaining a relentless one-through-nine approach to wear down pitchers and pressure defenses with pressure bunts and aggressive baserunning.
Nebraska's Will Bolt, D1Baseball's Patrick Ebert [Sidearm Delivery]
Q: What went into the decision to move Ty Horn out of the Friday role and into a different bullpen alignment?
The staff evaluated consistency among the top four starters, the need for longer Friday outings, and the value of a setup man in the bullpen; moving Horn allowed the team to stabilize the rotation and keep Yasa's role in a similar pattern.
Navy's Chuck Ristano, Army's Chris Tracz [Sidearm Delivery]
Q: What's the biggest challenge and reward of recruiting for a service academy, and how do you identify players who fit both academically and athletically?
The recruiting landscape is spread coast to coast and requires a fit for elite academics and leadership potential; you must be direct about expectations and be patient in finding the right combination of talent, character, and commitment.
