  • Needs guidance

I would like to hear a balanced host and cohost. Maybe with an older male with more life experience. The tone of the show seems a little millennialish (to make up a word). Not that they are bad but would be easier to listen to with some guidance from a older cohort.

  • Thankful for Paul Yaeger

I took a break from this for a while and thought I’d try it again. No thanks. It’s just as bad as I remembered. These two hosts’ biases make this about as useful for gleaning ag information as the Capital Police at a MAGA rally. Delaney’s rants on the Future of Biofuels episode made me thankful that Paul Yaeger has kept Market to Market on an even keel.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

August 7, 2026: Farm Economy Pressures Continue as Farm Bill Hits Another Roadblock
Q: What policy developments around Water Resources would most affect farmers' bottom lines, and what should producers watch for in Washington?
Key policy developments include the Water Resources Development Act, which involves both authorization and appropriation; these steps determine priorities and funding for dredging, navigation channels, and overall river infrastructure—watch for progress in both House and Senate committees and the potential for a finalized bill by year end.
August 7, 2026: Farm Economy Pressures Continue as Farm Bill Hits Another Roadblock
Q: Mike, how prepared is the transportation system to handle another crop coming off the field across barge, rail, and truck?
Overall, the system is positioned fairly well, though some services vary; rail and barge are showing resilience, but fuel costs and occasional service disruptions necessitate vigilant management of capacity and costs, with a focus on planning for destination markets and ensuring adequate infrastructure investments to maintain flow.
July 24, 2026: New USDA Investments, Crop Health and Market Challenges
Q: How does hybrid resistance influence decisions to spray fungicides?
If hybrids are racehorse-type and highly susceptible, spraying is more likely to show a yield return; more defensive hybrids may not justify the cost of spraying, so decisions should weigh hybrid resistance in the field.
July 24, 2026: New USDA Investments, Crop Health and Market Challenges
Q: When is the best time to apply fungicides for corn and soybeans to protect yields?
For corn, the commonly recommended window is from tassel through end of pollination, with silking often cited as a critical time; for soybeans, risk-based timing around key reproductive stages like R2 (full bloom) and silking can be effective, especially if disease pressure is high.
July 24, 2026: New USDA Investments, Crop Health and Market Challenges
Q: Specific to some of these diseases, what are some of those symptoms that growers should be watching for when they're scouting their fields?
Tar spot appears as tar-like black spots on both sides of leaves; gray leaf spot shows rectangular lesions; northern corn leaf blight has long cigar-shaped lesions; southern rust presents as bright orange rust mostly on the top surface. Soybeans show fewer foliar diseases, with white mold being a primary concern, and growers should scout using these symptom cues.
