I couldn’t disagree more with those reviewers who have been critical of the host’s style, his “interruptions.” This is the only podcast I’ve found in the contemporary Humanities that approximates the kind of conversations I most enjoy, wherein two people can think-out-loud together in an expansive, generative, non-dual collaboration.
Paul inserts too much of himself, his “quotomania” in to interviews and its easy to see when that happens. His selection of guests is impressive and Paul comes across as both curious and charming.
So glad these are back! Fantastic phone interviews with writers and artists, I love the wandering nature of these discussions and the structure that Paul gives them. His love of great writing makes me want to read more things! Some of my absolute favorites are with Alexander Chee, Maggie Nelson, and Adam Phillips.
How great you’re back.
Thanks
