  • Good content - bad production

I really want to like this podcast, but the production is really distracting. The intro music is WAY too loud and makes it impossible to hear what Kimberly is saying. It also seems like the ad breaks are automatically put into the middle of every episode, which sucks because sometimes that means they’re crashing into the middle of a meditation! It feels really disruptive and gross to have your meditative state broken for an ad. The interviews could also use some cleaning up for clarity and ease ... more

490 The Anxiety Trick That's Derailing Your Recovery with Drew Linsalata
Q: What strategy or steps would you encourage them to take in that moment when the rebuttal compulsion shows up?
Kim and Drew advocate grounding in the present moment, labeling physical sensations, and tracing back to the fact that feelings don't equal danger. They suggest returning to the core action of the skill and using values as a guide, rather than yielding to fear.
490 The Anxiety Trick That's Derailing Your Recovery with Drew Linsalata
Q: Tell me exactly what, like, you are the designer, you are the namer and the caller outer of this term, the exception clause.
Drew explains that the exception clause is the pattern in which anxiety reframes a situation as uniquely dangerous, despite general strategies providing relief. It's a reflex that can be described and named, which helps patients notice when they're about to override their usual tools.
491 Scrupulosity & Religious OCD: Coping Strategies for Faith‑Based Fear
Q: How do you align ERP with faith without invalidating beliefs or turning religious practices into triggers?
We honor core theological concepts, validate the person's faith, and tailor ERP to prevent shaming or condemning beliefs. The approach emphasizes that thoughts are not moral verdicts, uses diffusion techniques, and keeps faith practices intact while gradually reducing the grip of intrusions.
491 Scrupulosity & Religious OCD: Coping Strategies for Faith‑Based Fear
Q: In the moment, what do you do for a Christian ERP in the pew or during a holy moment?
We use exposure and response prevention with an emphasis on matching the exposure to the person's values, so they can sit with the urge without performing the compulsion, diffuse the intrusive thought, and maintain participation in faith activities without letting OCD dictate behavior.
