  • Oh Dear! Sound quality 😬

So many good ideas, great content but the sound quality finally got to me! Poor quality sound and acoustics on one mike. On the other mike, clear as a bell including unwanted, unmuted sounds like coughing, nose blowing, computer alerts, rustling and more.

Sound on an audio podcast is everything. Here I am on headphones folks! So also drop the Too Loud Jingle that makes me jump out of my skin. I will continue to read the online transcripts which are great.

  • Great information on plugins

I don't find all the plugins applicable (not using WooCommerce), but generally in a month there will be 1 to 3 great plugins that I will explore to see if they will fit into my sites ... also the discussion of various plugins plants seeds in my mind of what could be used in websites.

I just wanted to mention about your last contest and why I didn't enter ... I live on Bowen Island just off the coast of West Vancouver and while the plugin sounded great the maps were for the USA ... don't live th... more

  • Too many interviews

Used to love the show. Went back and listened to all episodes from beginning. Was very helpful and insightful. New format not as helpful. Old show - 5 star. Now - 2 star, at best. Not going to listen any more. There are other shows more interesting now.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Interview 82 – With Marcus Burnette on Building WellPlayedWP, The WP World, and What Real WordPress Builders Need from Plugins
Q: Why build a membership plugin library instead of selling plugins individually?
Marcus explains the single-license approach reduces license management headaches for agencies and freelancers, lowers administrative overhead, and creates a streamlined experience by centralizing access to multiple plugins.
Backend Bottlenecks Exposed: 62k Plugin Benchmarks, Local Slow-Query Analysis, and Zero-Bloat Tooling with Marcin Dudek 81
Q: What server-level changes have yielded the largest gains across sites you've audited?
Key improvements came from using optimized server stacks (NGINX configurations, Lightspeed, and Franken-PHP), and tuning server parameters to reduce the number of slow operations per request, which dramatically improved load times on busy sites.
Backend Bottlenecks Exposed: 62k Plugin Benchmarks, Local Slow-Query Analysis, and Zero-Bloat Tooling with Marcin Dudek 81
Q: What prompted you to benchmark all plugins in the WordPress repository with MakeWP Fast?
The motivation was to create a data-driven resource because there was no existing, credible benchmark showing how individual plugins impact performance, and the goal was to enable data-driven decisions and potential SEO benefits through programmatic content generation.
Backend Bottlenecks Exposed: 62k Plugin Benchmarks, Local Slow-Query Analysis, and Zero-Bloat Tooling with Marcin Dudek 81
Q: What is WP Multitool, and why would someone want to have it?
WP Multitool is a collection of modules that diagnose and fix backend performance issues, including slow queries, index creation, and optimization of various server and plugin behaviors; it helps pinpoint bottlenecks beyond frontend caching and provides actionable steps like adding indexes.
Unlock the Plugin Vault: AtoZ’s Latest WordPress Gems Revealed!
Q: How do you go about testing to see if a new plugin will play nicely with your other plugins and existing setup?
They recommend a dev-site test to check compatibility, and if issues arise you identify potential conflicts by selectively disabling plugins; in practice most plugins work well, with issues often stemming from heavier plugins or core/PHP version mismatches.
