  • Explain it to me like I'm 5... then get into the nitty-gritty

Nathan is so good at having guests start with the basics and build from there. I usually find myself somewhere in the middle, but there's always some essential little nugget I've missed along the way. I learn so much and feel like I'm filling in any missing gaps in my knowledge base.

  • Great, Authentic Show

I’ve been an open source developer and WordPress geek since 2012. This podcast is exceptional—there’s valuable, relevant conversation with humor and good spirits. Compared to some other WP podcasts that are cut, dry and short, WPWeekly is both informative and entertaining.

I feel like I’m hanging with friends when listening to the show. The hosts are also not afraid to speak their mind and tell it like it is concerning the WordPress community.

  • Awesome!!!!!

This has become my new favorite WordPress podcast. Jeff Chandler and John James Jacoby talk about all that is going on in the WordPress world as well as interviewing some pretty cool people in the community. Their knowledge gives a great point of view on what is happening in the community. Makes me feel like I am sitting in a coffee shop with them.

PS - WordCamp East Troy was the best ever!!!!!!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#218 – Luke Carbis on the Future of WordPress Plugins: AI, Ethics, and New Directory Standards
Q: What does AI disclosure look like in this ecosystem, and how would you surface it to users without harming trust?
Proposing a simple plugin header that indicates the level of AI involvement (from none to heavy use), surfaced alongside reviews and update history to provide transparency and enable data-driven assessment of AI impact.
#218 – Luke Carbis on the Future of WordPress Plugins: AI, Ethics, and New Directory Standards
Q: You mentioned a potential for a commercial plugin marketplace and even funding via a foundation. How would that work and what are the governance safeguards?
The idea involves transferring WordPress.org to a foundation, charging a modest fee to developers, and channeling funds into the foundation to support core development, contributor pay, and events, with governance to prevent undue influence and maintain openness.
#218 – Luke Carbis on the Future of WordPress Plugins: AI, Ethics, and New Directory Standards
Q: So what do you see as the core problem with the plugin landscape right now, and what are the remediation steps you'd try first?
The core problem is an overload of plugin submissions driven by AI, making it hard for quality plugins to stand out; proposed steps include improving discovery through account integrations, enabling favorites syncing, and experimenting with a connected ecosystem to surface trusted plugins.
#220 – Cathy Mitchell on Why WordPress Events Matter: Community, Connection, and Giving Back
Q: Tell us who you are and how come you're featuring on a WordPress podcast.
I've been working with WordPress since 2007, started WP Barista in 2008, and got involved with WordCamp Canada as part of the organizing team, ultimately leading the 2026 edition; I'm here because I'm passionate about the community and its openness.
#219 – Austin Ginder on How AI Is Exposing Hidden Threats in WordPress Plugin Updates
Q: Tell us a little about WP Beacon and how it helps the community.
WP Beacon is a repository for in-depth investigations of supply chain attacks, not just vulnerable code. It aims to be a legitimate feed for researchers and security professionals to track bad actors, share identifiers, and coordinate takedowns or mitigations—especially useful for organizations managing many WordPress sites.
