  • Great insight

From the paternal uncertainty to the breakdown of why male and females are attracted to particular traits... whew! Wonderful interview can’t wait for the next episode. I wonder if Dr. Shackleford also conducted the same research on people of other sexualities.

  • Awesome First Episode!

If you are at all interested in human behavior and what makes us tick as a species, you have to check this podcast out. I’ve only listened to the first episode but Dr. Moyer’s inquisitive style of engaging his first guest really brought out a ton of really engaging information. I have had the pleasure of being a part of some of these conversations and no doubt a sample for his lifetime study of human nature many times at a fine establishment named the Buccaneer. Can’t wait to hear more!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#080 - Parenting & ADHD with Ryan Wexelblatt
Q: How should parents handle disrespectful language outside the home or with peers, especially when they're in public or at school?
Do not reward or react strongly to the language; instead, use a calm, consistent approach, have the child do a 'cleanup' to repair the relationship, and involve school-based supports like a positive behavior plan when needed.
#080 - Parenting & ADHD with Ryan Wexelblatt
Q: What are the three key strategies you recommend parents keep in mind during a meltdown?
Maintain affective calmness to model regulation, give purposeful recognition for desired behaviors, and set clear, written expectations with opportunities for self-correction, not a punitive all-or-nothing approach.
#080 - Parenting & ADHD with Ryan Wexelblatt
Q: Could we just start with an overview about how an ADHD brain might work differently than a neurotypical brain?
ADHD involves a delay in executive functioning, which affects cognitive flexibility, emotional regulation, and future-oriented thinking, leading to inconsistent performance and a need for environmental scaffolding rather than relying on intuition or one-shot instruction.
#067 - Relationship Conflict with Dr. Isabelle Morley
Q: How should couples approach language and therapy terms like gaslighting in everyday disagreements?
Couples should avoid weaponizing therapy terms; using them accusatorily can shut down dialogue, while understanding and accurately applying terms helps maintain constructive communication.
#067 - Relationship Conflict with Dr. Isabelle Morley
Q: What does a healthy conflict look like and how should couples handle it when emotions rise?
Healthy conflict is contained and regulated, with empathy and validation; it may not require a full resolution every time, and a timely repair or pausing to regain calm is acceptable and often necessary.
