  • Great insight

This is a wonderful podcast with a lot of information and isn’t long a drawn out like other finance podcast.s. Please keep giving us episodes with other providers and healthcare support like the most recent with a anesthesia assistant. As a non physician healthcare provider, I came out of school with six figures in debt and not a $400k shovel. Let’s hear from more of us who also wear white coats! Great show!!!!

  • I was so angry but then…

For the first 10 years of my career after finishing Internal Medicine

residency I was working for another doctor as a W-2 employee. Then in

2015 | started working for myself as an owner of my small primary care practice. When I had to pay my first tax bill, I was in disbelief. Then it turned into anger and frustration:

I was in my early 40s and I had never learned or been exposed to basic investing and personal finance topics. I immediately started searching on how to lower my tax bill and to be... more

  • 10Xed my retirement

Thanks to Dr Dahle and the entire team at WCI for the useful, helpful, and inspiring advice. Divorced with a small nest egg of $300k at age 50, I now (13 years later) have $3M and can retire any time I wish, travel, donate to good causes, and know my future is secure. The pitch of the podcast is perfect — from basic, to technical, to downright geeky material. I’ve benefited greatly from your counsel. Sorry I’m too shy to sign up for Milestones to Millionaire. Thanks again!

Talking Points

WCI #465: How to Make Smarter Investment Decisions (Taxes, Fees, Risk)
Q: What should you do about legacy investments in a taxable account?
Consider selling to realize long-term gains, harvesting losses for offset, gifting to family in lower tax brackets, donating appreciated shares via a donor-advised fund, or building the portfolio around the legacy asset so you can manage taxes while keeping exposure.
WCI #466: Roth Conversions for a Smarter Retirement
Q: If my spouse has a SIMPLE IRA at work, should I still do backdoor Roths, and how should we handle the traditional IRA balance for 2026?
You should consider whether the prorated balance would cause taxes on the backdoor Roth. If possible, keep the traditional IRA balance low or zero to avoid prorating, and use tactics like keeping a separate SIMPLE IRA balance and funding backdoor Roths with after‑tax contributions while documenting basis carefully.
WCI #466: Roth Conversions for a Smarter Retirement
Q: I'm a fellow liberated military doc with TSP questions about how Roth conversions must accompany proportional conversions of combat zone contributions, and whether I should convert now or wait.
Conversions are highly situational; there is no one-size-fits-all answer. It may be prudent to convert gradually or isolate basis, especially if you expect future lower tax brackets or significant pension income, but you must account for prorating rules in TSP and potential tax costs.
MtoM #269: She Thought She Was Broke After PSLF—She Wasn't
Q: What was the turning point that convinced you PSLF could work for you?
Seeing colleagues successfully achieve forgiveness and the decision to continue with PSLF instead of using a sign-on bonus or other debt-paydown options convinced them that the program could work in practice.
MtoM #269: She Thought She Was Broke After PSLF—She Wasn't
Q: How did you approach debt and budgeting during residency to set up for PSLF?
They implemented a written budget and a focused debt-payoff plan, avoided unnecessary expenses, and aligned their spending with long-term goals, which laid the groundwork for forgiveness and net worth growth.
