  • Gratitude

My favorite part of this podcast is when you, Dr Dahl, thank the medical providers for what we do. It warms my heart every time I hear the words. While we are financially blessed, success in this career requires deep personal sacrifice. This podcast provides honest and excellent information- it has become my trusted “financial advisor”

Fantastic podcast. Can’t say enough about WCI except I wish I’d found them many years ago. Great content and their FYFA course enabled me to embark on a DIY path with the confidence I lacked previously. I went back and listened to every podcast from the very beginning over the past year and am amazed at the knowledge I now possess. Thank you Dr Dahle and guests.

  • Advice that pays!

I found WCI when I was a resident and followed Dr Dahl’s advice to “live like a resident” after graduating from fellowship. We made a written financial plan with the help of fire your financial advisor course. After 3 years, I was able to pay off my student loans. Now that our finances are in order, I have cut back to 0.8 FTE to have more time with my wife and kids. Thank you Dr Dahle and team!

  • The Best Medicine

The principles of WCI are the best medicine for physician burnout. With all due respect to wellness talks, yoga and meditation, taking charge of your finances is by far the most beneficial burnout buster. Dr. Dahle and the WCI team will show you the simple steps necessary to control your financial life rather than having money problems control you. Burned out physicians, you need this podcast and WCI in general.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

WCI #477: How Doctors Beat Corporate Medicine
Q: I want to talk to you about an unusual retirement vehicle called a Rabbi Trust and similar vehicles.
Rabbi Trusts and related deferred compensation vehicles can offer tax and timing advantages, but they come with high complexity and risk. They should typically be considered only after maxing out standard accounts like HSAs, 401Ks, and Roths, and only with careful assessment of fees, investment options, and creditor exposure.
WCI #476: Factor Investing: Should You Tilt Your Portfolio?
Q: What is Avantis' core philosophy around passive design versus active implementation?
Avantis aims to be broadly diversified and passively implemented in terms of index exposure, but with active decisions in holdings to tilt toward attractive prices and profits, balancing low costs with the potential for higher expected returns.
WCI #473: Risk, Reward, and Smarter Investing
Q: Why did you decide to write Risk and Reward, and how does market history inform your message?
The book is a culmination of a decade-plus of content creation, aiming to explain complex investing topics in plain English and to show how history, psychology, and emotions shape outcomes, not just numbers.
MtoM #278: This Doctor's Investment Gains Beat His Contributions
Q: You appeared on Jeopardy. How did that fit into your finances and wealth-building story?
Jeopardy winnings provided a cash boost, but regular high income and solid financial decisions were the main drivers of wealth, including downsizing houses to maintain happiness and financial flexibility.
MtoM #278: This Doctor's Investment Gains Beat His Contributions
Q: What would you tell someone just out of residency who wants to build wealth like you?
Choose a simple, low-cost, long-term investment strategy, automate savings, front-load retirement accounts, and avoid overthinking asset allocation while staying the course for the long term.
