  • Best finance podcast for doctors

I am so grateful to Dr. Dahle for providing so much financial knowledge at zero cost. I’ve been maxing out tax-protected accounts with index funds for years, but listening to these episodes has helped me see that there is so much more to personal finance than that. Applying this knowledge will enable me to work less and spend more time with my wife and four kids who I did not see very much during residency. Thanks for creating something that is such a blessing for my whole family.

  • Fundamental for all financial levels

I started from knowing nothing to feeling quite competent just by listening to the podcast alone.

On recent podcast episodes with Tyler Scott hosting in place of Jim, honestly is still great! I’ve loved listening to Jim walk me through all the different steps in my financial journey but hearing from Tyler, who also has similar background being previously a dentist, and then on top of that now doing financial advising, he is well qualified. It’s obvious he knows what he’s talking about. I learn... more

  • My constant companion since 2017

I discovered the WCI podcast in 2017 when I was towards the end of paying off my medical school loans. Since that time, I have read the books, followed blog posts, and listened to most podcast during workouts and car rides. I paid off all my student loans in 2019, and was fortunate to be featured on an early “Milestone to Millionaire” episode. The learnings have provided far-reaching effects since that time - I began finding my kids’ 529s, bought a car with cash, self-funded my spouse’s mid-c... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

WCI #442: Questions About Taxes
Q: Is it smart to try to max out our 401K contributions and lower our taxable incomes while saving for a house? Or should we keep investing and later take out a loan?
It's important to prioritize your financial goals. Maxing out your retirement accounts can lower your taxable income and prepare you for future expenses; however, assess what's most important for your situation. If buying into a practice is a priority and borrowing makes financial sense, then consider that route, but weigh all your other financial goals as well.
WCI #442: Questions About Taxes
Q: Are there significant benefits to forming an LLC versus practicing as a sole proprietor?
While an LLC can provide some liability protection for businesses with employees or other risks, it is generally less beneficial for independent contractors, especially in fields like medicine where malpractice liability is always personal. Tax benefits are also minimal for solo practitioners, as LLCs are typically treated as pass-through entities for tax purposes.
MtoM #246: Neonatologist's Hobby Turns into Lucrative Side Gig and Alternative Investment and Finance 101: Alternative Investments
Q: What advice do you have for somebody that wants to do something intermediate like this? How should they plan for it financially?
Save 20-30 percent, avoid living lavishly, and protect other assets; it should be a treat after doing the things right.
MtoM #246: Neonatologist's Hobby Turns into Lucrative Side Gig and Alternative Investment and Finance 101: Alternative Investments
Q: Are you actually making money collecting comics?
Yes, I am making money collecting comics; it's turned into an alternative investment asset class.
MtoM #246: Neonatologist's Hobby Turns into Lucrative Side Gig and Alternative Investment and Finance 101: Alternative Investments
Q: What milestone are we celebrating today?
The milestone discussed is achieving a $500,000 comic book collection, which combines passion and investment.
