  • Was hoping for more

The episode I listened to had 3 top-tier writers from the WSJ and Morningstar talking about a collaborative project they worked on. Zero takeaways for me and I suspect most other listeners. Disappointing.

  • Episode 82

I am delighted to see the start of a project to help educate youth on the reward of long term investments. These days, many retail investors are trigger happy, trading the headlines. I was a bit disappointed regarding the guests’ focus on target date funds that often underperform a low cost passive investment like VOO or VTI. I listen and read articles by Ms. C. Benz, and generally do not agree with her recommendations. Thank you Rick.

Episode 94, Robin Wigglesworth, FT journalist and the author of "Trillions", Rick Ferri host
Q: Who were the key players that helped move index funds from institutional to retail adoption, and what roles did they play?
Key figures include Jack Bogle for bringing indexing to the masses, Rex Sinkfield and Mac McQuown who helped launch early index products at Wells Fargo, and Gus Sauter and Patricia Dunn at BGI who propelled the ETF revolution, with Vanguard and DFA as crucial collaborators that expanded access and back-office support, enabling widespread adoption.
Episode 94, Robin Wigglesworth, FT journalist and the author of "Trillions", Rick Ferri host
Q: What is the core thesis of the book trillions and why did it matter to the evolution of passive investing?
The book traces how a network of researchers, bankers, and fund managers—spanning Wells Fargo to Vanguard—built the case for cheap, transparent, and wide-spread indexing, showing that active management struggled to beat the market over long horizons and that a few pivotal institutions and innovations turned indexing from a niche concept into a dominant market force.
Episode 93, Why Retirees Should Own More Stocks from Blackrock's Head of ETFs
Q: What is the right stock-bond mix for retiree spending and how is it justified?
The consensus from the guest and research suggests a moderate approach, often around 40% stocks and 60% bonds, balancing growth potential with protection against drawdowns and inflation, while acknowledging that a 60-40 mix may be more appropriate closer to retirement during the accumulation phase.
Episode 87, Jenny Rozelle, estate planning, elder law & more; host Jon Luskin
Q: What are common mistakes seen in estate planning?
Improper beneficiary designations that can lead to unintended inheritance outcomes.
Episode 87, Jenny Rozelle, estate planning, elder law & more; host Jon Luskin
Q: How should folks decide if Medicaid planning is appropriate for them?
Work with an elder law attorney who can navigate the specifics of Medicaid as it's not the domain of general estate planning attorneys.
