  • Host review

I’m a longtime listener of this Podcast, but I do not like Amy or not. Her slow and erratic, speaking with long and awkward pauses between words is hard to understand.

She needs a more fluent way of delivering her message and questions in order for me to understand what she’s saying

  • Great Podcast

Great show. Relevant and interesting topics with interesting guests. Christine Benz and Amy Arnott are excellent interviewers! However, I’m not a big fan of Ben Johnson’s interviewing style.

  • Misleading

In episode 363 Ms Birken and Ms Benz said that the health subsidies on the Health exchange were eliminated. Only the COVID enhanced subsidies were eliminated. The original Subsidies are still in place.

I would hate you think that people would avoid the exchange entirely because they think there are no subsidies.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Jeremy Grantham: ‘Almost Everything Looks More Attractive Than the US Equity Market’
Q: If you had to leave listeners with one practical lesson from your career, what would it be?
Question everything you hear, look at the data, and maintain a disciplined, data‑driven approach to investing that emphasizes long‑term fundamentals over temporary market fads.
Jeremy Grantham: ‘Almost Everything Looks More Attractive Than the US Equity Market’
Q: What went wrong during your speculative phase, for example with American Racetracks and Market Monitor, and what did you learn from those trades?
Two key lessons: first, enthusiasm can push you into overpaying for ideas that rise on momentum rather than fundamentals; second, some of the best ideas were decades ahead of their time, so practicality and near‑term demand matter as much as novelty.
Kathleen Rehl: Helping Widows and the Advisors Who Serve Them
Q: Are there common tools or decisions you used with clients facing widowhood, and what were the typical questions you helped them answer?
Kathleen highlights housing planning, care needs, and a decision matrix for living options; she also emphasizes tools for budgeting, stress-testing plans, and aligning investments with the surviving spouse's comfort and values.
Kathleen Rehl: Helping Widows and the Advisors Who Serve Them
Q: What breaks down financially and behaviorally when one spouse is gone, and how does that affect decision making?
She explains that the two-person decision-making dynamic collapses, leading to confidence issues, misaligned investments, and stress around irreversible choices like housing and care, which require careful re-scoping of financial plans.
Kathleen Rehl: Helping Widows and the Advisors Who Serve Them
Q: To start out, can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you first got involved in working on financial planning issues for women who have lost a spouse?
Kathleen describes starting as a financial advisor, then experiencing widowhood herself, which shifted her focus to helping widows and the advisors who serve them, and ultimately led to her writing and teaching on the topic.
