  • Great podcast for those trying to excel at fitness while balancing the rest of their lives

Love the podcast and is highly relevant for those trying to balance their lives while still trying to excel in fitness.

Pro tip for Tofu prep: highly recommend air frying extra firm tofu, press it (decrease water) lightly toss with salt and soy sauce, and air fry until crispy. If you don’t have a tofu press you can air fry it for longer.

I eat a block like this for every lunch and it is exceptional and easy to bulk prep.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

290: Bryan Boorstein - Does your training split actually matter?
Q: How do you approach mobility in relation to strength training?
Mobility should be viewed as the ability to load end ranges of motion; it's not just static stretching but functional strength work in positions that expose joints to challenging ranges.
290: Bryan Boorstein - Does your training split actually matter?
Q: How should someone think about calories and surplus in practical terms for muscle growth?
Eat enough to gain a bit of weight over time; a small surplus is typically sufficient, and it's better to err on the side of slightly higher intake to ensure progress rather than under-eating.
290: Bryan Boorstein - Does your training split actually matter?
Q: What is your take on the effectiveness of bro splits versus upper-lower or full body routines for long-term progress?
Over 10–15 years, with consistency and adequate volume, most splits seem to lead to similar outcomes; the key is sustainability and progressive overload rather than chasing a perfect split.
289 - Dr. Emily Dow: Gut Health, Fueling, and the Truth About Eating Enough
Q: What are your fueling recommendations for different workout lengths?
She describes a framework around glycogen depletion, recommended carb intake around lifts, and gradual progression for longer workouts.
289 - Dr. Emily Dow: Gut Health, Fueling, and the Truth About Eating Enough
Q: What is one thing you do really well in relation to fueling or training?
She highlights adaptability and the ability to tailor training and nutrition plans to individual circumstances and constraints.
