Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Travis and Amanda McWhorter | From Photographing Trail Races to Running Hardrock
Q: How did you both first get into trail running and photography, and how did those paths converge?
Both share that their entry into trail running was gradual and rooted in family and community, with Travis discovering ultrarunning through reading and a love of mountains, and Amanda moving from general outdoor life into photography as she joined him, ultimately forming their photography business together.
Ken and Margaret Gordon | Founders of the Mt Taylor 50k - New Mexico's Most Iconic Trail Running Race | Trail Love Podcast
Q: How has the community and volunteer base helped sustain Mt. Taylor over the years?
The volunteers have been the lifeblood—remote aid stations, early starts, and a culture of helping each other keep the race alive. As people aged out or shifted interests, new generations stepped in, and the organizers emphasized mentorship and robust community involvement to ensure a smooth transition when leadership changed hands.
Ken and Margaret Gordon | Founders of the Mt Taylor 50k - New Mexico's Most Iconic Trail Running Race | Trail Love Podcast
Q: What were some of your goals at the time Mt. Taylor was being conceived, and how did you imagine the race taking shape?
We wanted to capture the reverence we felt for the mountain and bring together trails and trails-focused culture from across the region, borrowing ideas from other races while staying true to the Navajo place in the landscape. We also aimed to keep the course simple and maintain a generous cutoff to encourage a wide range of finishers.
