  • Wish it was longer

This is the only running podcast that I wish would go full Joe Rogan and start releasing 3-4 hour long episodes. The episodes with Scott Jurek in particular are amazing — full of great questions, great stories and great wisdom.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Western States, Anti-Doping Efforts, and European vs American Trail Media with Francesco Puppi (Sunday Conversation)
Q: What are your thoughts on out-of-competition testing and the current state of anti-doping efforts?
He expresses optimism about progress in anti-doping discussions, supports more testing, and notes that the sport overall remains cleaner than many other major sports, while acknowledging some ongoing debates about specifics.
Western States, Anti-Doping Efforts, and European vs American Trail Media with Francesco Puppi (Sunday Conversation)
Q: Talk about this position that you think the sport is mainly driven by European athletes, but they're underserved by the media.
Francesco explains the numbers show more European athletes and the size difference favors Europe; he argues for more balanced media coverage from European outlets and for regions like Italy to develop stronger pro media ecosystems to showcase their athletes and races.
Kilian Jornet | 2026 Western States 100 Pre-Race Interview
Q: How are you feeling about this year's Western States as race day approaches?
Kilian says he feels good physically, resting and ready, with caveats about his knee and how it will respond during the race; he emphasizes being as prepared as possible and treating it like a vacation week to some extent.
Zach Miller | 2026 Western States 100 Pre-Race Interview
Q: Is it fair to characterize you as someone who doesn't totally embrace the scientific side of the sport?
He describes himself as a walking contradiction who appreciates science but also enjoys non-traditional, more artistic approaches to training, sampling ideas from physiologists while still valuing instinct, fun, and practical, gym-free workouts.
Dirtbag Dreams: A History of Mountain, Ultra and Trail Running with Carl Morris (Sunday Conversation)
Q: What were the inflection points in the evolution of the sport, particularly the 1950s and 1960s in America and the UK?
That period saw rising health concerns, a push for physical education, the Kennedy call to become a nation of athletes, and a shift toward institutionalized amateurism. This laid groundwork for later endurance culture, including the marathon boom and the growth of running as a mass participation activity.
