  • Biased is an understatement

I thought I was going to find some science discussion and training inputs here but all I have listened are biased thoughts and lots of training inputs. It’s great information whenever the information suits the roaches. This podcast makes for a great cult following but not for general unbiased information. Thanks for all the good things though.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

310. The Fatigue Resistance Episode! Rachel Entrekin Makes History at Cocodona, Women v. Men Durability, Fueling and the Central Nervous System, Brain Changes, and More
Q: From a coaching standpoint, how should fatigue resistance be trained in athletes who already show outstanding fatigue resistance, and does this differ by gender?
The coaches argue that fatigue resistance is highly trainable and should be improved across athletes regardless of gender. They minimize gender-based adjustments in practice and focus on individual response, suggesting that improvements come through nutrition, fueling strategy, and brain-centered training alongside traditional training. They note that the ceiling for fatigue resistance is not fixed and that improvements can persist even after detraining, implying long-term neural adaptation rather than purely muscular factors.
303. The Weird Science of Carb Mouth Rinses, VO2 Max Limits, Fueling for Performance, Cross Training, and Cramp Prevention!
Q: What would you tell a listener who fears they may not be progressing, despite putting in energy and training time?
Progress often comes from trying new training stimuli, building consistency, and accepting that talent and adaptation express differently. Keep showing up, vary approaches, and stay patient with long-term growth.
303. The Weird Science of Carb Mouth Rinses, VO2 Max Limits, Fueling for Performance, Cross Training, and Cramp Prevention!
Q: According to your experience, with VO2 max estimates varying across devices, should a runner pursue a higher VO2 max or focus on training adaptations and consistency?
Numbers on wearables are not the sole truth; they're interpolations. Focus on consistent, targeted training, try different stimuli, and use performance improvements and training responses as the guide rather than fixating on VO2 numbers.
302. Mailbag Episode! The Fastest Shoe, Our Dream Study, Improving Testosterone Levels, Heat Training, Upper Body Lifting, and Lots More
Q: What's your view on using a high-protein intake (1 gram per pound) and multiple heavy lifts per week for testosterone and overall hormonal health?
They share that some athletes use testosterone-supportive supplements with caution and emphasize that evidence varies; they stress avoiding overreliance on supplements and prioritizing overall training load, nutrition, and safety, noting hormone-related decisions should be made carefully and ethically.
302. Mailbag Episode! The Fastest Shoe, Our Dream Study, Improving Testosterone Levels, Heat Training, Upper Body Lifting, and Lots More
Q: Should an endurance athlete schedule upper-body lifts on rest days or is that too much cumulative stress?
They decide upper-body work on rest days can be fine if kept light and non-competing with leg days; emphasizes planning around total anabolic stress and using the rest day for strength work to balance the training load.
