  • Funny and Informative

Guys, I love the show. I always laugh—“stroke volume”—but I was really disappointed to hear you be so careless with the Cameron Hanes debacle. He took the peptide one time in 2024 to help heal a broken foot. Being clear about the information would have been more responsible. If a peptide could heal Megan’s heart, would she avail herself of it only to be called a “doper?” One peptide shot—given at a doctor’s office in 2024—didn’t make Cameron Hanes a phenomenal athlete. Cheers.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

317. HISTORY at Western States 100! A Full Breakdown. Plus High Carb Study and Questions!
Q: Is there a minimum percentage of current mileage that should be maintained to be able to build smoothly back to similar fitness in the future?
The hosts suggest maintaining consistent base mileage with gradual cameling, recommending that you could drop to as low as 20-30 miles per week if needed, but emphasize continuing some load (30-60 minutes of hills, strides) to preserve fitness and then ramp back up when time allows.
315. How Lower Carb Arguments Miss The Mark, Answering Bicarb Questions, Overload Weeks, and Heat Training!
Q: Is an upcoming big race realistic to enter far out?
Yes, set an ambitious goal years out, then structure training progressively toward it and stay flexible as the body adapts.
315. How Lower Carb Arguments Miss The Mark, Answering Bicarb Questions, Overload Weeks, and Heat Training!
Q: Fueling timing for big mountain runs?
Gas more carbs during long, high-effort segments, and adjust during downhill or lower-intensity portions; overall, fuel strategy should be effort-driven rather than rigid rules.
315. How Lower Carb Arguments Miss The Mark, Answering Bicarb Questions, Overload Weeks, and Heat Training!
Q: Cycling: Do the high-carb fueling guidelines apply to cycling or would you make adjustments?
Cycling supports higher carb intakes and GI training is crucial; elite cyclists can tolerate and benefit from high carb fueling, but adjustments are common and GI tolerances matter.
310. The Fatigue Resistance Episode! Rachel Entrekin Makes History at Cocodona, Women v. Men Durability, Fueling and the Central Nervous System, Brain Changes, and More
Q: From a coaching standpoint, how should fatigue resistance be trained in athletes who already show outstanding fatigue resistance, and does this differ by gender?
The coaches argue that fatigue resistance is highly trainable and should be improved across athletes regardless of gender. They minimize gender-based adjustments in practice and focus on individual response, suggesting that improvements come through nutrition, fueling strategy, and brain-centered training alongside traditional training. They note that the ceiling for fatigue resistance is not fixed and that improvements can persist even after detraining, implying long-term neural adaptation rather than purely muscular factors.
