I feel, on a smaller timeframe, one can say that free will works, but yes, if one sees the larger timeframe of life, free will surely is an illusion.
So to make ones life meaningful, one can continue to use his/her free will on the smaller timeframe. This can give some hope to the individual that he/she can modify his/her destiny to some extent, if not in full😊
