  • Coleman is a great thinker

Coleman, huge fan of yours. Need to mention that your “Drunk” man is way out of his depth on Australian history. Indigenous people did not get “wiped out by smallpox” which then forced them to drink. Death from disease were genuine but not significant. I’d be confident the gene issue is very relevant to alcohol tolerance. I’m married to an Asian…

As for aboriginals, I’d reckon tens of thousands of years without alcohol “just might” be more impactful to how a human body absorbs a substance r... more

  • Good guests and topics, weak host

Two stars for interesting topics and guests, but it’s not enough of a reason to keep listening anymore. Like much of The FP’s audio and video content, the ideas are solid but the host is average at best. Coleman gets a lot of praise but I’m not really clear why. He’s not a great host, he rarely follows up a thread from his guests and seems to stick closely to a basic script or list of questions he has in front of him. He seems immature when he welcomes guests to “his” podcast and says things lik... more

  • Brilliant, logical, well-informed

I have truly come to appreciate Coleman as an incredible thought leader. In today’s world of bombastic interviewers, it’s so wonderful to hear a calm, respectful, and logical approach. Coleman comes to every interview prepared, asking thoughtful questions, and willing to push back respectfully. I wish more of today’s podcasters would take note and bring back more civil discourse and thoughtful conversation, like Coleman. Keep it up!

  • Learning Lots

Each episode I’m learning more and more. I appreciate Coleman’s wise and calm approach to his interview/ discussions. I feel less alone as a “politically homeless” when I listen to Coleman.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Michael Shellenberger on the Psychology of Left-Wing Violence
Q: What are the main obstacles to expanding nuclear energy in the United States, and how do you see those changing?
He highlights public opinion improvements, cost structures, and regulatory context as factors, arguing that maintaining big, proven water-cooled reactors with strong industrial policy remains central, while acknowledging new technologies and incentives as possible accelerants.
Michael Shellenberger on the Psychology of Left-Wing Violence
Q: What do you think it is about you that makes you stand out in this space, willing to judge conspiracy theories on a case-by-case basis?
The guest suggests his willingness to admit past errors, his long history of engaging with and interviewing diverse perspectives, and a personal commitment to evidence over dogma as reasons he approaches conspiracy theories this way.
Walter Russell Mead on Christian Zionism, the ‘Israel Lobby’ Myth, and the Psychology of Antisemitism
Q: What is your view on the America First movement and how should the U.S. balance global engagement with domestic priorities?
Mead argues for a pragmatic 'America First' approach grounded in American security and economic interests, cautioning against both excessive globalism and isolation, and urging policies that reflect clear national priorities rather than ideological crusades.
Walter Russell Mead on Christian Zionism, the ‘Israel Lobby’ Myth, and the Psychology of Antisemitism
Q: Where do you think anti-Semitism ultimately comes from, and how is its durability explained psychologically?
He traces anti-Semitism to deep historical roots in Western society—from medieval economic structures to modern nationalist and anti-capitalist currents—showing that scapegoating and fear of economic disruption have repeatedly targeted Jews as a convenient focal point.
Walter Russell Mead on Christian Zionism, the ‘Israel Lobby’ Myth, and the Psychology of Antisemitism
Q: If you were to give your potted impression, critique of Mearsheimer and Walt's Israel Lobby thesis, what would it be?
Mead contends that their theory relies on a circular definition of lobbying, where any pro-Israel sentiment among individuals is equated with being part of a 'lobby,' thereby erasing independent political motivations and the real diversity of political actors.
