  • Mikey is good but Dave is the worst speaker

Really bad speaker only good when he’s talking abt how everyone but he and his crew are idiots, “time-energy” ain’t nearly as innovative as he thinks is basically a worse less insightful way of saying “alienation”. ik as society we overuse the term “narcissist” but Dave is 1000% what ppl have in mind when they use it. Also h*idegger is a self-confirmed n*zi deal wit 😌 but Mikey is very good and actually worth listening and learning from so don’t sleep on him

    Ps: anne, dump him

  • Typing while guest is speaking is annoying

Just stumbled upon the show and the content seems super interesting (listening to introduction to Lacan). The host typing and clicking while guest is speaking really messes up the experience. It’s as if he’s not listening. Just stay put and stop clicking for a second!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Introduction to Derrida | Guest Lecture with Dr. Iain Thomson
Q: How does Derrida relate to Nietzsche, and what is the significance of the Nietzsche/Heidegger interplay in this discussion?
Derrida engages with Nietzsche through the lens of post-Nietzschean readings that challenge metaphysics; he uses Nietzsche to critique Heidegger's appropriation of Nietzsche, while highlighting how unfinalizable readings (like the 'unforgotten umbrella') illuminate the endless potential for interpretation across traditions.
Introduction to Derrida | Guest Lecture with Dr. Iain Thomson
Q: What does Derrida's deconstruction imply for how we read texts today?
Deconstruction invites readers to foreground difference, context, and the relations between terms rather than seeking a single, final interpretation; it encourages ongoing, open-ended engagement with texts and a rejection of totalizing narratives.
Stewardship and Critique
Q: How do we avoid becoming solipsistic in homeschooling?
Finding a homeschool collective can help, but it's important to also be open to public schooling as a plan B in case of unforeseen circumstances.
Philosophy of Religion vs. Marxism and Evangelicalism | Ft. Dr. Samuel Loncar
Q: What mindset to cultivate as you begin reading the Bible?
Read it like a library of books and treat it like literature, understanding the history of its writing and context.
Philosophy of Religion vs. Marxism and Evangelicalism | Ft. Dr. Samuel Loncar
Q: What might someone with an evangelical background gain from this course on Philosophy of Religion?
They might find parallels between their beliefs and philosophical insights that help them to see the common ground with secular thinkers.

Frequently Asked Questions About Theory Underground

What is Theory Underground about and what kind of topics does it cover?

A dense, idea-forward show that blends philosophy, political theory, and cultural critique with hands-on demonstrations from a rural-urban life. Episodes frequently center on critiques of liberalism, leftist discourse, and modern social norms, while weaving personal narratives from a farming background into debates about technology, education, and community building. Notable for long-form, lecture-style discussions anchored by a recurring trio of hosts and regular guests, it often promotes serious theoretical work made accessible to non-academic listeners. A distinctive element is the blend of rigorous continental philosophy with practical, place-based projects (farm, workshops, trading-card game concepts) and recurring calls to build tangi... more
