  • Navel Gazing Left

This podcast is constantly dividing the left against itself. We need more cheerleaders and fewer annoy academics applying ideological litmus tests.

  • Finally

Vivek Chibber, in a few sentences, exposed the feeble and faulty understanding of political economic reality of the host, who is better at LARPing as a lefty than being one.

I’ll give it another listen if Gabriel Rockhill is invited.

  • Really good!

Really enjoyable discussion and good guests. Good balance of deep dives on thinkers, and current events, etc. Love that the host has a thoughtful tone and lets his guests speak without interruption, while also adding his own thoughts that enrich the episodes. As a Canadian I would love more canadian content! I loved your episode about Canadian healthcare!

  • What if the Frankfurt school wasn’t just needlessly pretentious, but also unbelievably uncurious

Lots of pseudo-academic leftists crafting very poorly thought out critiques of classic left-wing theory, only to not address the obvious contradictions in their analysis. Constantly alternating between abstract, self-masturbatory high political questions with no relation to actual organization and then 5 seconds later giving into a purely economist analysis with no recognition of political obstacles. Not worth listening to.

  • Losing credibility

U.S has the highest household expenditure compared to Germany and China because the housing, education and health insurance—the biggest contributors to consumption—are exorbitantly high, despite lower quality; not due to the amount of “junks” they spend on, which are cheaply imported and sold as Studebaker should’ve known.

This being the main empirical data to the bulk of his thesis on how the U.S. consumer is still indispensable to the world’s economy should give anyone a pause. The rest of t... more

The Chinese Economy (Ft. Jane Hayward)
Q: How did China finance the construction boom after 2008?
Banks, including local government finance vehicles, issued massive loans to developers and local governments to keep employment and growth alive after the export shock of 2008, which eventually led to a heavy debt burden and a shift toward high-tech manufacturing.
Will America Become a Dictatorship? (Ft. Benjamin Studebaker)
Q: Are you proposing a philosopher king's rule or a CEO king?
I'm not proposing any of that. I don't think that could work either.

The Real Origins of Wokeism (Ft. Musa Al-Gharbi)
Q: Why did you write this book? What did you think was fundamentally missing in the discourse of wokeism?
Musa Al-Gharbi aimed to analyze and measure the cultural changes surrounding wokeism, suggesting a disconnect between elite narratives and the experiences of the disadvantaged.
A New Old Left? (Ft. Vivek Chibber)
Q: What's wrong with the left today?
The left is weak organizationally, intellectually, and politically, having lost its connection to the working class and becoming preoccupied with cultural issues.
