This podcast is constantly dividing the left against itself. We need more cheerleaders and fewer annoy academics applying ideological litmus tests.
Vivek Chibber, in a few sentences, exposed the feeble and faulty understanding of political economic reality of the host, who is better at LARPing as a lefty than being one.
I’ll give it another listen if Gabriel Rockhill is invited.
Really enjoyable discussion and good guests. Good balance of deep dives on thinkers, and current events, etc. Love that the host has a thoughtful tone and lets his guests speak without interruption, while also adding his own thoughts that enrich the episodes. As a Canadian I would love more canadian content! I loved your episode about Canadian healthcare!
Lots of pseudo-academic leftists crafting very poorly thought out critiques of classic left-wing theory, only to not address the obvious contradictions in their analysis. Constantly alternating between abstract, self-masturbatory high political questions with no relation to actual organization and then 5 seconds later giving into a purely economist analysis with no recognition of political obstacles. Listeners likely engage with dense, idea-forward discussions at the intersection of politics, philosophy, and political economy. Episodes frequently explore Marxist and left-leaning critiques of capitalism, globalization, technology, and state power, while also examining internationalism, immigration, climate policy, and geopolitical risk. Notable is a willingness to entertain nuanced, sometimes contrarian perspectives with rigorous argumentation and a tendency to interrogate mainstream narratives. The show often features scholars, theorists, and commentators who push for structural, systemic analyses and pragmatic strategies for political change, making it appealing to researchers, policy wonks, and intellectually curious professionals see... more
