  • A most valuable resource

Joe does a superb job hosting the interviews. Solid content, presented carefully, always helpful. Episodes 147-150 on the ‘scope’ of scripture should be required material for anyone preaching or teaching Scripture.

TIP is the best podcast out there.

  • Poor poor interviewing skills

Please write out your questions before you start recording your podcast with guests, so that you can actually ask questions of them instead of chasing rabbits and giving speeches yourself. Take your role of podcast interviewer more serious. If you want your own show- create one. But if your role is to interview others—think ahead to write out and ask serious insightful questions—then shut up. If you do this, the quality, value and reach of this podcast show will improve greatly.

  • If I could only listen to one podcast for the rest of my life

Though I’ve only been listening for a couple of months, this podcast has been so precious to me. Regardless of your beliefs, theology, or denominational leanings, give it a fair listen.

And no episode better to start with than the current episode at the time of this writing, Episode 158:

“In Episode 158 of Theology In Particular, Dr. Joshua Henson joins me to discuss the Old Testament prophets and their message to Israel and the nations.”

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 247: A Faithful Steward: Essays In Honor Of Richard C. Barcellos With Jim Butler And Darrin Gilchris
Q: I thought it would be good just to begin by asking the question, how this book came about.
Jim and Darrin explain that the idea originated with David Charles, who proposed the project and handed it to the team; the editors, contributors, and publisher collaborated to honor Rich Barcellos, with Rich later being surprised by the gesture.
Episode 245: Virtues With Drew Sparks
Q: Drew, what are the best books to read on virtues?
Drew recommends foundational Reformed authors such as William Ames, John Owen, Thomas Goodwin, Francis Turretin, and Willem (à Brakel), noting how their work covers the infusion of virtue, the relationship between faith, hope, and love, and the practical cultivation of virtue within a gospel framework.
Episode 244: A Sabbath-Keeping Remains (Part 1): The Context Of Hebrews 4:9-10 With Richard Barcellos
Q: Does the New Testament explicitly teach that Sabbath keeping remains under the New Covenant?
Yes. The guest argues that Hebrews 4:9-10, interpreted through a redemptive-historical and Christological lens, supports a continued, albeit transformed, Sabbath-rest dynamic under the New Covenant, with the weekly pattern reframed around the Lord's Day and the resurrection.
Episode 238: Second London Confession Churches In Moldova With Mihai Chisari
Q: How has formal education through IRBS shaped your ministry and your ability to equip others?
Mihai explains that IRBS provided focused, high-quality instruction that expanded his understanding beyond his initial training, enabling him to teach more effectively, mentor other men, and help expand confessional work through programs like Imago Day Academy and the Ecclesia Platform.
Episode 238: Second London Confession Churches In Moldova With Mihai Chisari
Q: What did it look like to lead your church to embrace the confession and form a confessional church in Moldova?
He describes the intense teaching, hours of Q&A, and practical steps like establishing a formal statement of faith, ultimately coordinating with Romanian pastors and adopting the Second London Confession in 2019 as the church's covenant.
