  • No Excuse

I listened to the explanation of Jesus and the Gentile woman and was disappointed. How can you say that humanity is made in Gods image and at the same time say that Gentiles were family pet dogs? A dog is not the same as a human. It is sad and hurtful to know that we Gentiles are known as domesticated dogs.

  • Awful

I tried listening to the episode about beauty with one Phillip Ryken. It was absolutely revolting when he gleefully shared a story about how one honored professor threatened a man on his death bed. There is nothing Christian about that. Stay away unless you enjoy “fundamentalist” nonsense.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Understanding the Filioque Controversy - with Shane Angland
Q: Would you take a position on the Filioque clause?
The guest argues that it should not have been added to the Creed of 381 and notes that later dogmatic declarations in the West make ecumenical reconciliation more challenging, while acknowledging a middle-ground phrasing has surfaced in some discussions.
Understanding the Filioque Controversy - with Shane Angland
Q: Why was it problematic that the clause was added?
Because it was a local, not ecumenical change that risked creating an official dogma binding the entire church and deepened divides with the Eastern churches that did not accept the change.
Understanding the Filioque Controversy - with Shane Angland
Q: So first of all, what were they trying to accomplish by adding that?
The West aimed to emphasize the full ontological equality of the Son with the Father by including the Spirit's origin from the Father and the Son, arguing this strengthened the unity of the Trinity without proposing two separate sources.
Critical Theory vs. Christianity: Competing Visions of Reality
Q: How does critical race theory fit with broader critical theory?
He describes critical race theory as a developmental outgrowth of critical theory focused on race, explaining its differences and how it relates to the overall framework while noting its distinct political and social emphasis.
Critical Theory vs. Christianity: Competing Visions of Reality
Q: Is critical theory monolithic, and are there aspects it gets right?
Greene argues it is not monolithic, with variations among theorists from Marcuse to Adorno/Horkheimer, and acknowledges some insights about culture's influence while maintaining that Christians should still critique and repurpose those insights through a gospel-centered lens.
