Gavin combines academics with accessibility and he does it all while seeking to live out the greatest commandments—Love of God and neighbor. Gavin’s YouTube channel and podcast is one of a kind. Thanks for all the work you do Gavin!
What stands out most is the clarity and calmness he brings to complex theological discussions. The podcast isn’t driven by emotion or debate for its own sake—it’s guided by reason, charity, and a sincere pursuit of truth. Every episode leaves you more grounded, more informed, and more encouraged.
I came across this podcast while reading “What it means to be Protestant “ by Gavin. This book addressed everything I was currently thinking about especially the Eastern Orthodox claims to apostolic succession and Roman Catholic claims to being the original church that was born at Pentecost. Long story short this was a timely book for me. This podcast is very informative and encouraging! Thanks Gavin!

Gavin Ortlund embodies the contradictions of Protestantism: he preaches “mere Christianity” while sanctifying fragmentation, reduces salvation to courtroom metaphors while ignoring theosis, and cherry-picks the Fathers to prop up modern individualism. His irenic apologetics mask a deeper relativism, softening the radical claims of the one true Church into lowest-common-denominator religion.
I'm so thankful for Gavin and his thoughtful, biblical content. His perspective is refreshing and wise. He is academic, so some info may be a little hard to follow, but he does his best to make everything accessible for the common person. Highly recommend!
