The Way of Product is a philosophy magazine disguised as a podcast. Every week I publish two conversations with people who build in technology and product. Each one comes with a narrative essay that puts you inside the conversation through my eyes — what surprised me, what I kept thinking about after we hung up, where the principle actually lives once you strip away the jargon. I don't hand you th... more

  • Sound Quality

The sound quality in both the first and second episodes are horrible. It’s almost too hard to listen to but the information being presented is great. Hopefully it gets better in the more recent episodes.

As a new UX Designer, I wish there was a way to fix these two episodes because they are full of good information.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#172 Ben Johnson: When The Cost of Writing Code Drops to Zero, What Are Engineers Paid For?
Q: How is talent being evaluated in your company?
Engineers are valued for their ability to solve problems with scalable, reliable software, and for their capacity to design and oversee AI-enabled workflows. The focus is on outcomes, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to guide teams through complex, iterative delivery rather than just writing code.
#173 - Yaron Schneider: The Most Valuable Thing an Engineer Can Do Now Isn’t to Write Code
Q: How do enterprises price and deploy this technology?
Enterprises install the platform within their own infrastructure and pay by cluster, which supports large contracts and data governance needs, rather than a simple per-user SaaS model.
#173 - Yaron Schneider: The Most Valuable Thing an Engineer Can Do Now Isn’t to Write Code
Q: What makes agentic AI infrastructure different from traditional software stacks?
It centers on reliability, statefulness, and the ability to recover from failures at scale, enabling automation of high-stakes processes that previously required bespoke in-house systems.
#165 Richard Yu, CPO at LucidLink: Build Products That Disappear, Navigate High-Integrity Commitments, and Treat Strategy as a Hypothesis
Q: What role do high integrity commitments play in product delivery, and how can teams handle them without sacrificing quality?
They should be used sparingly and only when a real existential threat exists, but only if the team is capable and aligned to deliver, with safeguards to avoid shortcuts impacting discovery, design, or engineering.
#165 Richard Yu, CPO at LucidLink: Build Products That Disappear, Navigate High-Integrity Commitments, and Treat Strategy as a Hypothesis
Q: How do you keep the triad (product, design, engineering) functioning effectively as the product matures?
By emphasizing empathy, shared ownership, and a constant focus on outcomes over outputs, the team maintains collaboration from early MVP chaos to a more structured but still agile organization.
