  • Good but needs improvement

I love this podcast and hearing all the wisdom they offer for women runners over 40; however, I would like it if they included more episodes about "every day" female runners - not just those that run marathons or ultras. Maybe you could include some episodes about how to make time for strength training, how to incorporate each type of run in a week, realistic, training goals, what to look for in a running shoe, menopause, and running, etc.

  • More talk on this subject

What a great gem of a podcast. Woman are half the population - every woman that lives to 60 will go through this - so why isn’t it talked about more??! I really am enjoying the science-based information that Shona and Nicky provide. Many thanks!

Running Gets Harder… Here’s How to Keep Going
Q: How do you train through grief when you have a marathon coming up?
Be gentle and acknowledge the grief, back off intensity, allow for rest, and consider running in honor of the loved one as motivation, with a focus on easy runs and a longer recovery period before the race.
Marathon Prep Mistakes Women Over 45 Don’t See Coming
Q: What should I do if I start experiencing pain on top of the foot after changing shoes?
Investigate lace tension and shoe fit first, rest briefly, try different lacing patterns, and if pain persists, consider consulting a physio to rule out bone issues.
Marathon Prep Mistakes Women Over 45 Don’t See Coming
Q: Is creatine beneficial year-round for runners and should I stop before race day?
Creatine is beneficial year-round when paired with resistance training; there's little justification for stopping before a race, and consistency is more important than cycling off and on.
Marathon Prep Mistakes Women Over 45 Don’t See Coming
Q: How can we minimize travel fatigue when flying overseas for a marathon?
Plan for hydration, movement, compression, eye masks, noise-canceling headphones, and arrive earlier to allow rest days before racing; if possible, travel business class for extra recovery benefits.
Marathon Prep Mistakes Women Over 45 Don’t See Coming
Q: How should I interpret a slower 5K in a training cycle focused on a half marathon?
A slower 5K can be normal during a buildup for longer distances; focus on overall progression, consider illness or life events, and trust the training cycle rather than forcing peak performance too early.
