  • Good but needs improvement

I love this podcast and hearing all the wisdom they offer for women runners over 40; however, I would like it if they included more episodes about "every day" female runners - not just those that run marathons or ultras. Maybe you could include some episodes about how to make time for strength training, how to incorporate each type of run in a week, realistic, training goals, what to look for in a running shoe, menopause, and running, etc.

  • More talk on this subject

What a great gem of a podcast. Woman are half the population - every woman that lives to 60 will go through this - so why isn’t it talked about more??! I really am enjoying the science-based information that Shona and Nicky provide. Many thanks!

Female Runners Over 45: What Your Heart Rate Is Trying to Tell You
Q: Are heart rate zones meant to match running zones, and what should we learn from them?
Heart rate zones reflect internal physiological effort and are linked to pace zones, which are external. They're not identical but should be used together, especially for beginners, to gauge effort, with emphasis on perceived exertion and pace when needed.
Why Strong Legs Aren’t Enough (The Missing Link for Runners Over 45)
Q: How can runners tell if their core needs work?
Look for symptoms like persistent low back pain or recurring leg injuries, and perform simple tests such as holding a short front plank or side holds to gauge baseline core strength.
Why Strong Legs Aren’t Enough (The Missing Link for Runners Over 45)
Q: What does a practical core training plan look like for a runner over 45?
A practical plan focuses on 10-15 minute blocks, 3-5 times a week, with high-quality, progressive exercises like modified planks, dead bugs, glute bridges, and bird-dogs, prioritizing form and consistency over volume.
The Truth About Ultra Running as a Female Athlete
Q: What was your race strategy on the day?
The plan was to hold back for the first 18-20 Ks to manage energy, then push through the hills of Chapman's Peak and Constantia with a pacing chart that kept ego in check; overall aim was to run steady and finish strong without burning out.
Feeling Exhausted, Slower, and Stuck? Here’s Why
Q: Why are marathon miles sometimes excluded from long runs in Coach Perry plans, and how should I prepare for race day pace?
Marathon miles in long runs can lead to fatigue and overtraining; instead, include easy marathon-paced work and tempo pieces on non-long-run days while keeping the long run for endurance, fueling, and race-specific prep.
