  • Has become an extended advertisement

Used to be good and would cover a fair amount tech related news across the spectrum.

However in recent months the podcast has become an extended advert for Stardock and concentrates on Xbox related news, both of which are limited in appeal.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Physical Goods
Q: Should Xbox just have to be put up for sale as a whole, or at least put up for sale some of the studios instead of shutting down so much?
The host notes that some studios would not have survived without Microsoft backing and would likely need independent financing or sale to continue, implying that selective spin-outs or sales are preferable to broad shutdowns when possible.
The Physical Goods
Q: Should Xbox as a whole be forced to sale at least?
The host argues that forcing a sale is unlikely to be practical or beneficial, suggesting that the industry may be better served by letting studios spin out and survive independently, while Microsoft evaluates strategic options like selling assets rather than shutting them down.
Xbox Meets Darwin
Q: How important is engine consolidation to Xbox's future?
Engine consolidation could reduce maintenance overhead and enable smoother talent mobility across studios, making it easier to ship titles faster and with less cross-studio friction, which is crucial after the layoffs.
Xbox Meets Darwin
Q: Is there a risk that spin-out studios will fail without Microsoft's backing?
There is risk, but the spin-outs could foster leaner, more entrepreneurial studios that must prove their profitability; if they can ship successful titles and share engine resources efficiently, they could survive independently.
Xbox Meets Darwin
Q: What do you think about the scale of layoffs and what it means for Xbox's future?
The layoffs are drastic and broad, signaling a major realignment of priorities; while painful in the short term, they may be aimed at aligning resources with a more sustainable, franchise-first strategy that could improve efficiency and focus in the long run.
